South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius is facing a murder charge after his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was shot dead at his home in Pretoria.
Police confirmed that a friend of Mr Pistorius's was killed at his home in the early hours of Thursday morning.
They said a 26-year-old man was due in court, but this has been delayed until Friday. Police do not name suspects until they appear in court.
Mr Pistorius, 26, was the first double amputee to run in the Olympics.
The precise circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear. Some reports said that Mr Pistorius may have mistaken his girlfriend for an intruder. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

After Lance Armstrong and OJ Simpson we should not be surprised anymore when we hear these things. The list of atheletes who have killed or abused their spouses/mates is long and infamous.

Sad! The poor lady probably did not even know what was coming. I hope SA has life in prison without parole. In Canada, he'd be able to get out in 7 years, but most likely be out in 12 - 15. Texas 35 years. Spain 3-5 years.

Blood stained cricket bat found at scene of murder
Police were investigating whether Pistorius assaulted Reeva Steenkamp with the bat before shooting her four times in the head, chest, hip and hand, the Afrikaans-language Sunday newspaper reported.
The paper said police are investigating three possible scenarios: that Pistorius struck Steenkamp with the bat; that she used it to defend herself; or that Pistorius used it to try and smash his way through a door into a bathroom where she was cowering.
The first shot was fired in the bedroom where Steenkamp and Pistorius had spent the night, according to the account. A spent cartridge case was found on the bedroom floor. Steenkamp then apparently fled to the bathroom and tried to hide behind the door. A further three shots were fired through the door.
"The suspicion is that the first shot, in the bedroom, hit her in the hip. She then ran and locked herself in the toilet. She was doubled-over because of the pain. He fired three more shots. She probably covered her head, which is why the bullet also went through her hand," an unidentified source told the paper.

There hasn't been a death penalty since 1995 in SA. What he'll get if convicted is 25 years.
If convicted, Pistorius faces a mandatory life sentence, though under South African law he would be eligible for parole in 25 years at the latest. South Africa abolished the death penalty in 1995.

No idea if it is relevant in this situation, but too many people are regarded as heroes because of their talents. It puts them a top of pedestals that they do not belong on, and then they fall, hard.
I wish people held more regard for those that give of themselves, like first responders, than they do of people with talent in sports and acting.Love like crazy everyday and smile.
