Does anyone know how to make a scannable/plain text resume

Hi,

I'm trying to revamp my resume. I'm trying to make my resume scannable/plain text. What exactly is a scannable resume? Are there any templates? Do I use Word to make it? How do I transform my resume into one? Should I use this type of resume to apply to jobs online only?

in Microsoft Office Word, there are a few templates you can use if you want [there are few/many styles] also downloadable templates on microsoft website if you want to see other styles.

I recently did a resume class at EI - most companies use 'scanning' software for resumes...it doesn't really matter how your resume is laid out, it's based on 'key' words...so use words that they use in their job descriptions...so if they use certain words, repeat them in your cover letter and your resume. They pick out those words in the scanning and that's how your resume ends up in the interview pile...after a year, I finally got a job as a graphic designer at a printing company...it's been a long haul! (if a company specifically asks for a 'scannable resume' just do it in Word and don't format, you can underline or add * - no bullets or tabs - but no bold or italic words...)

Don't use the word templates for this, set it up yourself with tabs as the macros etc set up to format it can confuse the software

Other random important things that people don't think of:
- if mailing, do not fold it, mail it flat, the folds when scanned in make it hard to read (obviously word copies are better) and use white decent quality paper not the linen resume paper you can buy
- many places do not use docx so save as doc or formatting is lost in the conversion
- place your name on each page
