I go by product type as well: dog, cleaners/smellies, diary/frozen, OTC, Oral, bread/produce/pasta/rice, hair, bodywash, underarm, face/skin, shave, paper/plastic, cereal, cookies/snacks, drinks, condiments.
I did try a-z, but it just drove me nuts, I like to have mine organized by the way the items are in the store, I find it faster and easier when I shop.
I use an envie to write my shopping list on and have all the coupons for that trip in the envie. I still take my coupons with me for when I find a deal or sale that I have missed.
Everyone has a way that works for them.

I go by category by the way I shop the store. So it starts with produce (though there aren't too many coupons for that!), then deli, bakery, meat, etc.
I use an acordian folder I got at the dollar store, but after about a month of couponing it's full! Mostly thanks to the generosity of SCers in trades I have done. I'm thinking about upgrading to a binder but not sure I'm ready to be that hardcore

I currently have mine in envelopes and those are in a ziploc bag with a pen. My envelopes are labled...Free, Perisable foods, bottled foods, canned foods, toiletries, laundry, and a few other names I cannot recall. I have not gotten a binder yet but I will do that over this summer .

I have a cute little box (with a handle) that i carry my coupons around in. They are sorted by category: Food, Bathroom, Cleaning, Other and in each category they are in envelopes sorted by type: Breakfast, Bread, Cheese, Condiments etc...
I also have one envelope at the front for Sweet Coupons (lol)
I also have a Coupon Catalog on my computer of all the coupons that I have and when i go on big shopping trips i print it off so i dont have to search through my coupons to find out if i even have itLast edited by fahlinluv; Thu, May 26th, 2011 at 07:05 PM.

In my coupon pouch that I carry in my purse, I have them organized by category (beverages, hair care, pasta, canned, yogurt, etc)...I think I have 39 categories or something insane like that

For all the billions of extras I have, I have 12 clear folder pouches from the dollar store and each one is labelled by month. I have them all in the month which they expire. Then I have my tradelist all typed out according to the expiry months. So if I need a coupon, I just look up the expiry date on it and then I know which folder it is in!
I think I'm going to get a small banker's box to put all of the folders in and keep that in the back of the van. Then if I'm in shopping somewhere and I need a coupon I can just pop out to the van and get it. I'd rather carry a coupon inventory list in my purse and then I can just look on the list to see if I have the coupon in the van or not. I try to keep 1 of each coupon in my pouch and all the extras in the folders.

My hubby splurged and bought me a coupon bag organizer from glowgirl for mother's day! i love it!! It has two rows of dividers for my coupons, and enough room for my wallet, calculator and my flyers!! It's so fast to flip through the dividers at the store and get what i need. For my extras, trades and coupon trains i have a binder, which is not as organized as it should be!!

I worked with what i had in the house... had to purchase a binder... but i had loads of page covers... so i did A-Z in health and beauty stuffs with tabs on the top and A-Z with tabs on the sides for foods. I find for the most part this system works for me really well. I may in the future purchase the card holders for at least the tiny coupons.

I find small photo albums work too, lol. I started with one that was made for a purse, but upgraded to a small album. I find it easier to carry than a binder, but more pages to look through, so I have to remember the order. I keep my son's treats, etc, at the front. Then pet. Then husband's stuff. Then mine (such as hair care, deo) in seperate pages. Then cleaning products. Laundry products. Air freshners, etc. Then from back to front, I do groceries. Last page being special coupons for restaurants, etc. Then working back, with the things I use the most; cereal, pizza, pasta, etc. in it's own page.

btw... what was I thinking buying a binder that is only 2 inches?... laughs.
If your about to buy your first binder i recommend a 3 inch or 4 inch binder that zips so you never loose a coupon. The 2 inch binder filled very fast and a binder that is too big just gives you room to grow so you always have what you need.

I have a binder for single coupons (by category) and if I have multiples I have a filing system for the bulk of my multiples in an accordion filing box (alpha) - I then have a label that I put on my single/sample coupons that states what's in the accordion file etc. (I make that just a piece of masking tape so it's easy to take off) and I am currently creating a spread sheet of all this info - this is what happens to a secretary who is now a stay at home mom lol!

I have a binder with trading card holders organized by month and then by type : food, personal care, home care, pet and baby. I need to break those categories down further though as it's a pain in the butt to flip through at the store. Just bought my second binder too. I think I'll put 6 months in one and 6 months in the other.
