Why do people do this.. 20 messages from a Spammer today.. There must be a way we can BLOCK them from this site.. Any idea's?

I hear you. There has to be a way. DH gets so upset because two thirds of our emails are spam. We blocked them, added to domain blocked list. Afraid to open to unsubscribe to get a virus.Please there has to be some technical wizards on SC ? Thanks everyone in advance.

Not sure if Kryptonit3 is still around (hasn't posted since September of last year...) but he was the tech guy while SC was going through all the updates and the spam rampage a while back near the end of last year...maybe you can message him about it.

As far as I understand it, Boo wants the forum open to all. Which means spammers can register easily. Until Boo and the other admins decide to change the rules and moderate all new members it will remain this way.

There are 2 ways of moderating new members..setting the forum to limit the initial number of moderated posts before allowing a new member to post freely or to have some-one read all the new posts and decide whether or not to aloow the post to go through.

Then you have to decide how many posts before moderated status is removed...too few and the spammer/spambot will just post until the limit is reached and then the posts will be added automatically. Too many and the casual poster gets discouraged.

Of course neither of that stops retrespective editing to add spam to already existing posts.

I am completely agree.It is a very big problem and it get worse and worse with the time.I remember a rant about that and in the night hours and earlier morning it is worse.You cannot see the thread;you have to report like 15-20 spams before...I am not exagerated...It is demotivated to log in ...into those problematics hours...But spam is all day long...I hate the new way to post below a regular Smart Canucks member...Their new manner to get some sort of attention I suppose...no life persons...

nope no way,. just keep on reporting them when you see them.
Problem is theres only a few of us mods and we alll MOD parttime sooo we cant always be sitting on SC all day unfortunately

uh oh, I thought RNC meant people joining and then posting threads that are spam. Both are annoying though.

RNC did mean that walkonby. The spammers have been getting rather busy in the past few weeks. There's a stack of spam threads most days now.
