Does anyone know how much would be saved each month by turning off the furnace (pilot light) completely?

Estimate 40.00 savings for our fireplice by turning pilot off, but if the basement is damp keeping the pilot on might save your furnace corroding faster than if it was off,

Thanks for your reply. I'll contact our service guy who comes out every year to ask him if there would be harm in turning the pilot light off. Our basement doesn't appear damp to me....

I started reading up on this when I saw your post and came across a lot of info saying the savings from turning of the pilot is negated if the humidity during the summer starts to rust parts of your furnace as Kasha said. They pilot generates just enough heat to stop any moisture build up leading to rust.

I have a feeling that rust won't be an issue here because we don't have the humidity like the East But I'll be talking to the furnace guy for sure if we do decide to turn off the pilot.
