Coupon organizing

Hi I've just started couponing and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to organize and keep track of one's coupons?

I don't want to rush out and buy a binder and a whole bunch of crazy supplies if I end up not doing a ton of couponing to make up for it...

I have my binder (I'm new too), but I haven't gotten my organizing method down yet. I'd like to be able to just quickly see which ones are expiring soon...but I'm working on it. At least now I have them sorted into some sort of categories.

it totally depends on how much couponing you will do or how many you will use.. some ppl find little organizers from the $ store work great. others lean more towards binders..
i personally started with a pencil case, then went to a organizer. then finally gave in and went to the binder. very happy

I started with a small folder from Micheals that was for coupons and had them separated into separate catagories. I now have moved to a zip up binder (that I already had) and bought baseball/trading card sleeves from Dollerama and page protectors. I downloaded an index and catagory title sheets from mrs january. I love the idea of my binder and catagories because I'm fairly new and love knowing that it is all organized.

I am a pretty new couponer and I have an accordian file that snaps shut with 13 dividers. I got it at the dollar store. It's pretty full already and as I am single (no kids just a dog) I don't need to collect lots. I have found that I get rid of my un-needed coupons through trades and trains so that makes it easier to organize the ones I have.

I've just recently returned to couponing, so I started out with just a small accordian case like I had years ago, but found that that pulling out all the coupons that I had to look for the one I wanted was getting too complicated and I was starting to lose some in the process. I have since grabbed a binder and some small and large pocket page protector that I had around my house, I sorted them all into Food, Health and Beauty, Cleaning, Home Repair and Entertainment (the last two are mainly gift cards that we have received from Xmas and Birthdays)
One thing I like with my binder is that I have pockets in the inside cover I that I hang a notepad of paper on, to write lists on, notes while I'm shoppin, etc... and pocket in the back to put coupons that I find while shopping or get in the mail until I get a chance to cut and sort them out

I was just using my wallet or pockets, and only carrying coupons I would be using at the store that day. But it became problematic. So now I have a small coupon wallet, about the same size as my wallet. It came from the dollar store, accordians out a bit, and holds what I need right now.

I have each divider sorted by category/department, with the front one or two dedicated to items I'm specifically planning on getting that trip, and the back pocket is for things with long expiry dates, specific dates (like the June 21 Cheerios) or others not likely to be used soon.

It makes it easy to grab a stack from one pocket and flip through them if I'm looking for something food related, or checking to see what I have for paper towels. And it's not cumbersome -- I keep my lists on little notepad sheets by store, rather than a huge piece of paper I need to look at.

I started with the accordian file and after 2 weeks had to move to the binder. I have mine sorted with dividers according to baby, bathroom, cleaning, grocery, beauty, household. I've used business card inserts from Staples for the small coupons like Save.ca (Couldn't find baseball inserts anywhere). They fit 10 cards on each side so I get a lot of coupons in without bulking up the binder. I use photo inserts for the larger coupons. The dividers I got at WM. They have pockets in them for any extra storage I might need.

I sort multiple coupons by expiry date, soonest on top. After a while I find I just recall what coupons I have so I don't stand at a store flipping through the whole binder. I think that's a sign that I spend way too much time doing this. lol

So only been doing this since mid april. Started with the Accordian and now into a binder. Actaully looking for a second binder for just trades. Thing in my house now is though. NEVER LEAVE THE CAR WITHOUT THE BINDER. you never know what you are going to find in the store on sale that is not listed. Cardinal rule in my house. Wife laughs everytime I get out of the car without it. And likes to remind me of the rule breaking. Along with "Well you'll just have to run back to the car to get it" speech.Good luck and happy hunting

I am using the binder method however, it feels like I am ALWAYS ORGANIZING AND REORGANIZING IT!! Everyday I get new coupons in the mail or I find new ones

I've started using worz.ca to track my coupons- it's a really useful little tool. My only nitpick is that i've only loaded about 10% of my coupons to it and it seems to be 'lagging' a little bit. Hopefully it will accept all of my coupons, because I have a LOT.

I keep my coupons in two different binders- one for food, the other for household/beauty. If I have a large quantity of one coupon, I keep ten in the appropriate binder- the rest of them I paperclip into bundles and store in a large accordion 'spill out' folder. If I use all the coupons in my binder, I can go to the accordion folder to replenish my supply.

I put both of my binders in a reusable grocery bag, and take it into stores with me- JUST in case I come across a really good deal. Before I go shopping, I make a list of what I'm planning to buy and take out the coupons I hope to use. I put those coupons in a pocket-sized accordion folder (which I keep in my purse) to pull out for the register. I only ever go into either binder if I come across an unadvertised sale that I have coupons for and don't want to miss out on.
