I love the pet train idea :)
I love the package trains in general, and am trying to ride the ones that I feel apply to me in some way. I do find it sometimes hard to shop for people because I don't want the package I send to be the one someone is holding going "that's it?" Of course everyone says they love what they get but there's always that little doubt.
I like that I receive and send to different people each time I ride (as in I have never received a package from the same person twice, nor sent to the same one twice). But of course I have only beening riding since the Halloween train so no as long as many of you.
I am pretty new to package trains and I found that it can be a little intimidating at first.
That is a sentiment that I have seen repeated by alot of first timers. Maybe there could be a package train where someone new is paired up with a vet?
Oh, and I especially like when the train lists something like the Mother's Day one did, one gift from each category, or say 5 items minimum. I know everyone tends to give more but I find it helpful to give an idea of the size of package. Even the advent one, where you know you are sending 25 gifts, was nice though I totally forgot how many I'd bought lol.
Even as a long time rider I always have the same doubt as the newer riders LOL is my pkge good enough ? or big enough ? will they like it ?
I think we need to relax a bit and if you are meeting the requirements and sending a gift you would be happy to recieve ...then all is good ...the object is to have fun ...get something just for you or your pet or child ect it is not to out buy/ out do/ out spend anyone else :)
I love having a week space for mailing it makes it easier for people who don't drive
I love the idea of a pet one or something besides just holidays kinda of fun idea
I will say that when I rode my first package train it was super intimidating. I found I had to do a lot of digging in the package train thread to find more information. Like a sample wishlist...I forget what page it's on now but it's hidden somewhere in there. :-) If it could be moved to the first page to help newbies get an idea of what would be on it, I think that might help and/or attract people to the package trains.
I don't think anyone should be able to request a buddy ever but that's my personal opinion. I like the element of surprise, and it doesn't leave anyone feeling left out. I know it can save people on postage if they get someone nearby and can hand deliver it but not everyone has that option and/or know that a buddy can be requested. I know some people have requested people wayyyy in advance too which I don't think is fair either.
I agree with GwennaD, I like how the Pampered Ladies train was split into categories and one item from each was the requirement. :top:
I don't think you can really set a minimum or maximum $ amount because it's really hard to tell what people actually spent on items oop. Especially because we all use coupons when we can. You don't know if your buddy can stack, doesn't happen to have a coupon for some items they bought, and the price of items range from province to province. I think it would be better to just go with a minimum and/or maximum # of items.
I love doing package trains! i like when there is set guidelines like the mother's day train where you had to get one item from each category.
personally, i don't request a buddy because of the element of surprise of who i am getting. if i were to know who i was getting i would not be as excited to check to see if i got my buddy. the only thing that i do request is that my sister and i ARE NOT paired up as we sometimes tend to shop together, but really, it is not that fun to shop for someone that you see everyday.
i am liking the idea of having a list of the upcoming trains. that way i too can pick and choose which ones i am gonna ride.
I just rode my first package train--pampered ladies, and I loved it so much fun. Great all the posts getting to know everyone.
Now I am on pampered guys as well DBF is so excited as I was looking forward to my package and fun buying things for someone.
I think it is your choice whether or not you decide to ride, so spacing them out is not an issue for me.
I set a budget for myself and stuck to it for the last one and now that I am building up my stockpile it will be easier to spoil my buddy.
Also now that I am comfortable on this type of train--was too scared to join in the past--I find myself looking for things on discount racks and on sale that I can put aside for a future buddy.
Super glad I decided to ride the pampered ladies train to get an awesome first experience on a package train.
