Q: Have you or anyone you are close suffer from Depression? I mean severe depression? If so, what do they do to feel better?

    Thanks
Yes, I was clinically diagnosed with severe depression. The first step for me was admitting to myself that there was something wrong and I was no longer able to handle my day to day activities and I felt like I was "drowning" and couldn't get myself above water anymore so I knew that something was severely wrong. Something very serious happened directly to me in my life to trigger this depression and it was a long battle but with the proper treatment and help I am now "feeling like me again". I was put on medication, and a 6 week leave of absence from work, and counseling. I am still on medication. The first few weeks at home were bed rest, as when you are first diagnosed you have absolutely no energy or ability to do anything. That was really hard for me....I fought the dr. on that one a little bit but she said that my mental health was failing rapidly and if I didn't do something drastic and fast we would be in trouble so I would need my husband and kids to take care of me for a little while. My health was more important at this time. They needed a healthy wife and mother! So I agreed. Slowly I felt like doing things again, going out in public, not hiding, reading, not crying as often. This one is a really hard one for me to admit or say allowed but I no longer have those feelings of ending my life. I thought that everyone has thought of that at one point of there life my husband said no he has never ever thought of that. I no longer have that feeling so no worries everyone!!!!!

Admitting to myself and getting help and talking to someone (not family at first) and being really candid about your depression! What really, really hurts! Is the first step! Be true to yourself and that alone will make a difference! It is a start.

I agree! My doctor was my lifesaver! Being able to admit to yourself that hey, I don't like this girl.....I want the old Norma back is what got me to the Dr.
Nice to know that we are not alone!

    Weird side note....
Thanks for asking I've been wondering about this too!

Vista Print? Return address labels would be great or Anything with DD Autumn's name on it would be good too!

    Candies? Peppermints, Licorice, hard werther's

About Depression- Wow I can't believe how many of us have been affected by this. My mother has been clinically depressed for years and is also borderline bipolar. Her Dad was the same and suffered a complete mental breakdown and later died in hospital. After attempting suicide several times my mother is now heavily medicated and has also had shock therapy. The whole genetic link thing is scary. Frankly it scares the HE** out of me. But I think talking is the #1 thing. I face "winter blues" every year but so far have fought against slipping farther. I don't want my DD to suffer seeing me the way I had to see my mom it still breaks my heart. I know this is a heavy topic but I just want to applaud everyone for speaking out. This should never be a taboo topic and is common in all circles. Talk to friends, professionals, strangers etc. No one should ever try to face this alone. All the best to you all.

My well.ca order is out for delivery! That took awhile. But I'm so glad it's going to be there today! Now I can wrap things up, number them. Eek! And try not to buy a bunch more stuff lol. I still have two etsy orders to arrive, but I'm sure they'll be here soon and I know what numbers they are The rest I'll be figuring out tonight, hopefully lol.

I'm hoping the weather is nice this weekend, other than going to Shoppers for the 20x event we shouldn't be out shopping. So we'll need some other way to spend out time. Playing outside should fit the bill.

    Woo hoo it's Friday!

Thank you ladies for sharing your stories... I'm glad we have such a great community here that is supportive of each other, and offers that "safe" spot to share what's on our minds, or going on in our lives that sometimes is too difficult to talk about with someone face to face. Even though I've never faced clinical or extreme depression as some of you have, I've also had my "down" times, and had contemplated suicide as a teen.

Nowadays I don't have thoughts like that, but still pretty much keep to myself. I enjoy my family and close friends, (and all of you, of course!) but not big on groups or "going out". I think if anything it's more of an anxiety thing now, large groups, and being centered out doesen't sit very well with me. Some might think of me as anti-social, or a bore, but thankfully, it's not often I'm put into those situations. I like my happy medium place where I can be myself.. be as goofy or weird as I want, in that "controlled environment" of those that know me well.. and not worry about who's looking at me, or what they're thinking..

Wow... not sure how all that came out.. but I guess it's that "safe" feeling.. I meant to just say how impressed I was by our group, and quote my wrapped candy answer (Riesens, Starbursts) and look what happened!

One thing about having a kid is I have to force myself into social situations, because he likes them. Personally I'd rather just stay home and enjoy my little family and close friends. I have a friend who tells me I'm a shut in, or calls me a hermit. I just perfer it quiet and "safe". However, I take the kid to the park and other places, which is super hard. I do think it's interesting that so many on here have commented about various "mental health" issues, like depression or social anxiety issues... amazing to me because it is so quiet in the public, people just don't talk about it but I bet we all know someone with these issues who are hiding them, so silly to have such a social stigma attached when talking is one of the things that helps best! People feel ashamed about it, and no one should have to. Any way! Love this group of people, I can be social and still safe lol, and no even have to leave the house

Lucky you! You have a very organized buddy. My buddy is going to have to wait patiently to the bitter end.... I think I have about 5 or 6 prezzies bought for her (one is one of her top three most wanted, though)
