I just had the most frustrating phone call with SDM Optimum customer service.

Due to SDMs tills, they cannot process a return and new purchase in one transaction, they have to return the item and then make a completely new sale, which is ridiculous as then if you return something that leaves you short of the threshold for the bonus points, you don't get your points.

I was told before by Optimum that if I called them after making the return and new purchase that they would reinstate the points as the new purchase will count as long as I'm over the threshold.

The person on the phone today said they would not do that. Which is SOOOO stupid. Why should I lose my 18,500 points when I'm still over the threshold just because their tills cannot properly handle their loyalty program??

I can't imagine others here have not encountered this. Thoughts?

Ask very nicely if they can do the option (and they can) for a 'return without a receipt' so you can just swap products without losing out on your points. Very simple. Just ask for a supervisor or a manager if cashier is not welcoming.

That's a great suggestion. I did not know they offered that. I will give that a try.

Have you ever had the Optimum telephone line make the adjustment though?

    I am very annoyed.

3 SDMs later today and none of them would do it. I was planning to purchase approx $170 worth of product and returning $39 from my earlier purchase and none of them would do it.

It is so ridiculous that though I would be spending far more than returning, I'd lose out on my points. So ridiculous. They really need to have tills that can process a return and a sale all at once so points are not negatively affected.

It doesn't sound like you're just trying to make a simple exchange, it sounds like you want to purchase more stuff after the bonus point day and get the bonus points on it? It doesn't really work like that. Trying to get them to return $39 and purchase $170 is a big difference. I don't really know any store who would do a return and a sale all one one receipt with that many items (unless the $170 was just one item, but I don't think it is). Not having a receipt for returns only works on small/cheap items, I can kinda see why the stores where hesitant to process that.
