I LOVE these coupons!!!! The milk ones in particular...I have been getting $3.99 for a 4L of milk and it applies to all 5 milk jugs if I buy 5!!!!! On Tues I had a spend $50 get 8000 pts, which I used, and the cashier also gave me the $10 promo card, so I am anxiously waiting to see if they will actually give me the 8000 pts(they r to be awarded at a later date)

I received emailed coupons for the first time last week. I believe it is because of the advice my sister gave me. She told me to log in to my optimum account online. She had done that a couple of months earlier to transfer some points from her husband's card to hers, and a couple of weeks later, started getting email coupons. It took a couple of weeks for me too, but I believe that was the trigger, as I had never logged in to my account before.

As for SDM knowing what to send us, it would be based on a combo of purchase history and demographics. Every time we use a loyalty or points card at any store, they know exactly what we purchase (just like CO51 knows what we purchase from the photos of our receipts). We are giving them information that feeds their research and marketing programs.

So some coupons they will send us because we have purchased that type of item before, other coupons they will send because based on our info, they think we could be interested, with the incentive, to purchase the product. Other times, it could be that they are targeting certain areas of the country, or of cities, even down to certain postal codes. There is a massive industry in postal code research. Reams of info about who you are, what you buy, what you drive, what you read even, based on your postal code.

Apparently, there was a big to-do in the US a few years ago, because Target was able to refine its research so well, that through purchase history added to demographics, they could predict that a woman was pregnant within her first trimester, even before she told her family, and would send her coupons for baby stuff. This led to some very upset husbands, as well as upset fathers of teenager daughters.

You can use it anyways...they can't refuse the cpn just bcoz its a 20 x day...as long as you are spending $ 75.

The 20 x points are automatic..you might or might not get 20 x points on the $ 75 you spend as you are using another promotion ( cpn ) at the same time..so if you are willing to take that chance go ahead and use the cpn anyways.

But I don't think they can just refuse the cpn ..bcoz its a 20 x day..now whether the automatic system ( register ) , awards you 20 x pts or not is a risk as the promotions are usually not allowed in conjunction with each other.

REALLY? That's great! I've been only purchasing ONE item with the coupon!! Is there a limit you can buy using only one coupon?

That's just too funny! - lol .... And call me a skeptic but I don't believe they could tell that based on her buying patterns.... probably more like targetting a specific age band and income group .... I don't think my buying patterns changed when I was pregnant ... certainly after the baby arrived my patterns would have changed.

Complete digression from the point of the thread.... The target marketing on various sites is just annoying though they think they can predict what you will be interested in and they are usually far off the mark.... On the other hand - I use a points card cause I care how much I spend and getting the extra value for my money ... so if you send me a coupon for a "free trial product" a MIR or great discount - well it's probably going to appeal to me and almost any "points card" user. sorry for the extra long verbage....

my favorite one was last week I got a 8000 pts when you spend $30 on food, so I didn't do a redemption, just bought my milk, apple juice and some chocolate on clearance for the wife and got 8300 pts for it, that had to have been my favorite coupon so far.
