Yesterday when I drop by one shoppers in Markham, I saw the promotion of 18500pts. Just need some diapers, so I grabbed 3 boxes of pampers ($20.99 each), 1 head and shoulder, 1 juice and one 1 baby powder. The cashier had no problem with $2x1 pampers coupon and $1 head & shoulder coupon, put code 2001. When it came up to $10 x 2 coupon, she read and read, turned over and over, then asked me the expiry date. I pointed to the front of coupon, which expire sept 30, 2013, she didn't say anything. I thought she didn't hear/see, so I pointed again, she was very impatient, said, I know I know. Then, she put my $10 coupon with code 2002. I asked very politely, "don't you put coupon code as 2001", she was very angry, said, excuse me?! I know how to put coupon in the system. Are you a cashier at shopper?. I said no, but I read from website that coupon needs to be entered as 2001 code. Then she said because theres no tax on diapers, that's why I need to put code as 2002. I asked her if I will get bonus points, she said of course not, don't try to play games!!!!! I was very angry at that points, but didn't say anything. I said, just remove the $10 coupon and I will use next time. She said, oh, I didn't know if I could do that. She tried, it went through.
When I came back home, I read the receipt, found out that she put my other $2 diaper coupon code as 2001, which she said she needs to enter diaper coupon as 2002 because theres no tax!!! What the FK? I don't know why she tried to give me hard time ? I was very frustrated at that moment and told my husband about my experience. My husband told me just return everything to the store. We did, but food are non-returnable, so we kept the juice. I got extra points later on that day in another shoppers with no question asked!
God, why there are so many MEAN people around there ? Made my Canada Day so awful???This thread is currently associated with: Pampers, Shoppers Drug Mart

How great that your DH is very supportive. That makes all the difference here. Nice you eventually got your points at another store.

I think that nasty cashier definitely didn't want you get the bonus points.Maybe you should call a 1800 customer service number about her bad attitude and not wanting to enter the coupons with the proper code.

same thing happened with me on sunday,i spent $77 before taxes and i gave cashier around $21 worth of coupons, she said you will not get points if you will use coupons,i was very confident,i said no problem go ahead, but i was surprised when i saw my receipt i did not get my points because some of the coupons she did eneter them as free product 2002 coupon code.that was $4.50 when you buy oral b,crest paste and rinse.i asked her but she did not understand what i am talking about and keep replying that you did not got points because you use coupons.very bad day...i am now fed up to train cashiers again and agian.i stop participating on gift card promos because there is something that cashier has to do her own choice regardless of policy...but now with point system they start playing games with coupons.

Call head office each of you that had a problem and ask for them to correct it.
If they keep getting complaints about staff at particular stores, I bet they will pass that on to the district managers who visit the stores, and they should be speaking with the staff about this issue.
On SC this seems to be a common problem that many of us experience.
And I don't get it, what do the cashiers care if we get more points & bonuses or not?? Do they get some kind of bonus for stopping it? LOL!

Sorry you had to go through that!.. Anyone having any problems, report to manager and if not successful call HQ... I always think about how do they treat the elderly or special customers or I hate that...we have to report attitudes and unprofessional conduct. I'm glad it all worked out for you and DH.

Thanks all for your support!
You guys made me feel much better! I emailed head office, they said the bonus pts supposed to be after coupons, so I didn't bring up this issue

xues, i am so so sorry this cashier treated in this manner. She seemed to go out of her way to be nasty. I know how something like that can totally ruin your day. *hugs*
also, i, like Shelley17, wonder what the big deal is with coupons and points with these cashiers. The stores get the money from the coupons back (with the exception of smaller stores that may not have someone to do the paperwork to get the refund) and they get so many people using coupons that it would make it very difficult to trace an error back to an individual cashier so they wouldn't get into trouble for it. And if the coupons are entered under the 2001 code, i can't imagine any cashier getting into trouble over points as due to the sheer volume of coupons they receive a manager or supervisor ould be hard-pressed to show that the coupons were incorrectly entered. And how would anyone know, anyways? If they are really concerned for the store's wellbeing, they really only need to look at the expiration date and the product type (though they don't even have to be very careful about that). In any case, there is no excuse for such rudeness. I hope you never have an experience like that again.

hi Landior, thanks for your support! This is what I thought! There are so many coupons out there, how do they trace back? But there are so many mean ppl out there! Forgot to mention, that cashier is an old lady with white hair. I don't want to write letter and make trouble for her. I will just avoid that shoppers in the future.

Good for you, xues. It is just unfortunate that you had to be on the receiving end of her negativity. I know how awful it can feel to have this sort of thing happen to you.
An yeah, i am almost 100% sure they don't go through all the oupons and match them to receipts. Not only is it way too time-consuming, but it is unnecessary. Coupon audits (when stores are asked to provide proof that the item for which a coupon is being claimed was actually sold) are so rare and a store would only get into trouble for being completely fraudulent (that is, claiming coupons for products they did not sell at all). By that time, the cashiers are anonymous as coupons just go in under a general code and value--they cannot be traced back to a particular item or cashier unless only one of that item was sold in the entire period of time for which the coupons are being claimed, and that just does not happen with big stores.
Happy couponing

That cashier sounds like a real hag. Glad you were able to get your points though.

I agree with many others who said, why in heck would they even care about the bonus points? Seems like your cashier really was out to get you. I hate to age-discriminate but I tend to find more trouble with older cashiers. I think perhaps they take more ownership for the store (??) thinking us nasty customers are out to buck the system.
I usually try to go to a young male cashier. With that said, when I cross border shopped in the US, I knew of a great older cashier Ruth at the Walmart. She was soooo great with coupons, always gave me max value on items (they scan coupons there, and when the coupon is bogo, the system reads it as the max suggested retail price, most cashiers adjust it down to the real price which is usually lower).Kate
