ive mostly stopped using coupons at normal registers, i do all my shopping at the customer service desk.

this is the exact reason i wont be using coupons at canadian tire anymore (old rant on here)

wasted 15 minutes of my time (cashier called customer service girl over) insisting that 1 per purchase meant i had to do it 1 transaction per item....

on that note though, i like to believe i teach some of these people about coupons, also i can hear them all talk to eachother about how i just got a super great deal as im walking away :D

Which Surrey location were you at? If you tell me King George Hwy, I won't be surprised...other locations are much more coupon friendly in my experience.

Huh...Scott Rd.... They have a coupon policy posted right at the front entrance where they post the competitor flyers. Nothing has changed as far as I know.

Many coupons have a sentence that says "Pst,Gst,Hst and or Provincial sales tax are included in the coupons value where applicable".The $3.00 Glad coupon is one of them, therefore the coupon value WAS NOT over the product value.Next time point that out to the cashier and tell them it includes the tax

I think it all comes down to where you shop and who you have as a cashier. Some know the difference between a "transaction' and a "purchase' and some don't until you explain it to them...most of the time they catch on.Believe me i was a cashier for 3 years if you would of came into my line at nofrills with coupons you would not of had a hassle.

    Oh, that's a good idea!

And isn't it sad, that it is something that needs to be done?

OP, I think all of us have dealt with the lack of understanding of the different between a purchase and a transaction at one time or another. But boy, it sucks when it happens because it feels so crappy to have to try to explain things to them and to not feel bad while they are arguing with you. Sad you weren't able to get bags for free. But glad you were at least able to do the separate transactions for your items.

I REPLIED AGAIN .. AND HOPE THIS TIME.. I WILL GET A PROPER ANSWER..

In regard to your inquiry, I would be happy to provide you with our national coupon policy provided below.

Cashiers don't know the difference usually unless they coupon themselves because the managers or supervisors who are SUPPOSED to do the training don't teach them. I've worked in 2 different stores and have been cash trained for about 4 or 5 years now and I have NEVER been trained about coupons. Retailers can't be bothered to train their staff properly.
