Nielson scanner

Just wondering if anyone has a Nielson scanner. I registered a while ago and just got an email saying I am on their wait list. As soon as a scanner is available, they will send it to me.

I'd like to ask people what their experience with this was like.

I had one and ended up sending it back to them about a month later. I found that I kept forgetting to use it, until AFTER I'd put the purchases away, so my reports weren't totally accurate.
Also, when putting in your coupon values, the coupon can't be higher or even equal to the item price (and as all SCers know, we often get overage, or even getting the item free, excluding tax). So again, I found that my totals were incorrect. Turned out to be more of a pain than benefit IMO.

Can you tell me what the benefits are? In the email I got it said I will get points for items. I'm all for helping the Nielson's but they need to make it worth my while.

I did a little research and found that most comments are similar in terms of it not being worth it. Maybe I won't bother?

I too found it a pain more than anything. You need to unpack everything you bought, then scan the item and then put it away. Once a week you would hook it up to your phone and call the number to send in your info. I'd always forget to scan the items in or not wanting too look poor, scan things in that I'd bought the week before on the weeks I wouldn't buy much.

Rewards took forever, and didn't amount to the pain in the butt it was.

I signed up, and got sent mine. After reading the "rewards" availble, I figured I'd have to do this crap for 1 1/hr years to get something I could buy on sale under $20.

Called them to let them know it wasn't for me.

I was tardy sending it back to them, so they sent me a courier label and promised to send me $25.

They sent me $25 about 4 months later.

That was over a year ago, perhaps the rewards are better now? Neilsen is not a scam, and many people like to be a Neilsen consumer and have input. I'd stay on the wait list and read all the literature and the point system if they choose you.

You not only had to do your groceries when you shopped, you were supposed to record when you bought a pop from a vending machine, or got a chocolate bar at the corner store.

I used one for just under 6 months, and i wasn't buying a lot of things so they asked that i send it back to them, promised me a cheque and other gifts and after i sent it back in their box i never heard from them again. So received nothing at all, I wouldn't do it again, but maybe if someone does a lot of purchasing it would add up fast and you could get lot's of points and be able to buy stuff from their website.
