So I know some of you have dealt with either yourself or loved one ect with cancer and don't want to swing the mod down but needed to ask a question. As most are aware my dad has Amyloidosis and Myeloma(cancer)....the Dr's give him 2 months to 1 year. The problem I have having is how to deal with his depression he has good day and bad but his bad days just make me want to go home and cry. The thought of himself passing really brings him down. He tends to go in a shell doesn't want to have dinner with us ect which is frustrating because when he isn't in Keswick for appointment he lives two hours away. He tends to make jokes that sometimes are hurtful even though I try to tell myself he isn't in the right mind set....like this isn't a wake I am not dead yet. I just not sure how to handle it. I am not sure if his mind set/ memory loss is due to this since both diseases are fairly rare. He is not taking chemo doing a Natural Path treatment but his dr.s are worried about his protein being to high which will shut down his organs so this is weighing heavy on him.

So I try not to talk to much about this but I have stage3 matetitised (sp) ovarian cancer been deem incurable and terminal,on reoccurrence #3, I will tell you that anyway your dad feels is right, i know this is hard to hear but it is his illness to deal with, the impact on other is hard but he can't think about that he has to come to terms in his own way. You can't rely on him to comfort you. You will have to find other members of your family or friends for this. The one I can't stand is spending more time making people around me feel better. I get asked how I am doing but nobody wants the truth. As for the jokes I make some pretty sick ones. For example one of my old gym trainers is moving and asked if I would be around the next couple of weeks, to which I replied you will have to ask god about that. Another guy at work ran into Mitch and I after he and Mitch just finished a battle fitness test together he said to Mitch glad to see your still alive, I jumped in and said thank you! I don't want to be harsh but what is happen to your father is awful he lies in bed terrified at night. He has the right to yell scream,laugh, cry, joke, smash thing.......... Give him all the support you can love him when he lets you, joke when he does, let him cry when he needs too. I don't know if I've helped but I am a pm or Facebook away

TV talk. Fun! My top shows are: Walking Dead & Once Upon a Time (and Wonderland), Reign, Grimm, American Horror, Grey's, Vampire Diaries and the Originals. And of course all my hockey games mixed in there.

Haven!! I love that show, I'm still waiting to get my hands on Season 3. And I'm currently on season 7 of Dexter.

I have about 12 items for my buddy right now. I had ordered something from Sears but I see that it has been cancelled. I don't know why I even shop through them. Seems like it always happens.

Kim, contact the Canadian Cancer society. They will point you in the right direction. Don't forget that you need to look after you too because whether you are the patient or the caregiver, this stuff is hard to deal with. I found them super helpful after my mom's diagnosis and then, again, when I was diagnosed.

all caught up again! I didn't get as much shopping done for my buddy as I wanted to but there is always tomorrow! I'm going to try and wake up early tomorrow...going to Sephora for a mini shopping spree of some essential makeup/beauty things and then off to do some shopping at the outlets and other places.

thanks for the answers...I know I never talk about my feelings around my dad I don't want to burden him with what I feel. I just wish I could help him and don't know how lol I guess it would be great to wave a magic wand and have it all go away.
