Canadian Tire Scratch Card advice..

I am so green at this, last year missed the card event a few times and the one that buy a minimum of 5.00 and guaranteed atleast 5.00 scratch...lots of deals were had and I don't want to miss out on this one...I know the rules are not as generous but what is the best plan of attack for this promotion?? buy a small item if nothing in the flyer that you need and see if you get a card that is worth something and rinse and repeat (go back out and come back in? I have a few things I need but any advice anyone? Thanks very much.I read the flyer thread and the members were sharing that the stipulations are confusing. To me I am completely lost. Any hand-holding would be great...
