Thread: brag and one busted

Love the bust! I am newbie and sometime I do make a mistake with coupons. For example I once tried to buy the wrong size sunlight dish soap. But the cashier was kind and pointed out my mistake and let me go get the correct size bottle. However I do not think that taking a coupon that you were only able to print one and making 14 photocopies is an oversight. It is stealing if the store does not get there money back and I do not want couponer's to be considered thieves!
That said I am very grateful to all you SC's and your information and advice, without out it I would be lost. Maybe the next time someone see's someone making a mistake you could direct them to this website rather than making them feel embarrassed (not that this situation was a mistake). Thanks to you all!

Way to go! I think it's fantastic you said something. People who do shady stuff like this and risk the rest of us being punished for their misdeeds really tick me off.

There is an old saying, "Beware of throwing stones if you live in a glass house"!! You say you didn't know about the Listerine coupon, but you used 8. Maybe, she didn't know about not photocopying the coupons, everyone here gave you the benefit of doubt, why not her? And really who made you the "coupon police"! No, I'm not her, but I actually felt bad for the her, how embarrassed she must have felt
We have all done wrong and questionable things with coupons I'm sure, taking too many coupons from tearpads, taking peelies, using coupons with expiry and wrong products. etc. etc. etc. I think we should mind our own business, we are not anyone's moral compass. How they shop is there business, isn't that what you guys tell those people who huff and puff and say rude things behind you? It didn't matter that she was doing something wrong, it wasn't your business to interfere in her shopping trip. Hypocrisy is a insideous thing!! You may have done more harm to couponers by bringing attention to this, instead of letting it go. I have another good saying, "let sleeping dogs lie" even if they are blocking your path

Printed a $6 Aspirin coupon and copied it 200 times, pre-ordered from Walmart and got a $600 overage.
Printed a $3 coupon for toilet paper, copied it 100 times and got enough toilet paper for 2 years.
Neither coupon said you could not print it, who is anyone to morally judge anyone else?
I do not like it, but it's also not your job to instruct anyone else on how YOU feel it should be done, or impose YOUR thinking on anyone else, or get involved in someone elses business and humiliate and embarrass them publically like you did - I do not applaud this behaviour at all. If you had such an issue you felt you could not let go of, you should have spoke to the customer service department about what you saw, and left it with them to handle. If anyone had done this to me as I was checking out, I would have had choice words to say back, among other things.
For all you know they were legitamately printed coupons, you took what she said the wring way and was so completely mortified by what you did she left rather than deasl with some stranger's hostility."Define yourself do not live by definition"

so heres the busted part, A woman in front of me had 15 cottonelle coupons and I watched and waited.the cashier was reading the coupon and said wow thats a great deal...how did you get these ones, she stated she printed them from online...In pops nosey kinda peeved me...I said yea its a great deal, too bad it only lets you print one...( Im so naughty) the lady very nervous now...said oh really it let me print as many as i wanted. replied oh your lucky then and I added in...alot of people are photocopying them and ruining it for all of us..but I said..good thing they number them and no two copys are the same numbers...the cashier now new what i was getting at and asked the lady to leave and she is no longer able to coupon at the store and ripped the coupons up. Im so sick of people ruining it for everyone! If you want multiples..trade not steal!
I have read this 3 times and I do not see where she called her out or did anything to humiliate her, she stated some facts about the coupon. If that lady was humiliated I guess that would be because she was guilty of misuse with this coupon. Now for mind your own business, couponing is our business and if 1 abuses it in anyway that effects our ability to continue couponing then that IS OUR business. Just my opinion.

Why wouldn't Walmart be reimbursed for those coupons? Because "Manufactures Coupon" is Walmarts policy and not the Bayers\LaCoupe policies. So when Walmart submits the coupon back to the companies they will reimburse them because they are the ones offering the coupon for use.
Sure Walmart is not suppose to accepted them, but they will get reimbursed. No one is losing! I highly doubt someone is sitting at the store going "oh this doesn't say "Manufactures Coupon, so I'm going to throw it away." they will send it back to get the money owed to Walmart or whatever store.

Actually Walmart doesn't get reimbursed for printed coupons that don't say "Manufactures Coupon" on them. That is why it's in Walmart coupon policy under printed coupons! I have contacted the Walmart store near my house and Walmart head office, asking them why can't they accept a printed coupon that doesn't say "Manufactures Coupon" on it when it's coming from the companies website and they said because they have submitted many printed coupons that didn't say it and they didn't get reimbursed, that's why they added must say "Manufactures Coupon" onto there policy. So yeah Walmart is losing they don't get reimbursed. Walmart cashiers look to see if printed coupons say it, that is there job and what there suppose to do, just like how they look to make sure it hasn't expired and it's a canadian coupon. If you have a printed coupon and it doesn't say "Manufactures Coupon" on it and you use it and the cashier doesn't know to check for it and you get a way with it, that's the same as copying a coupon, you know what that printed coupon has to say, yet you used it away, Walmart doesn't get reimbursed that's why they added it to there policy.

There were likely other people listening to the exchange, and I am pretty sure it was not done quietly. Would you not be embarrassed that some "nosey kinda peeved" stranger started questioning you in front of others and harrassed you to the point you were asked to LEAVE the store???? This poor woman was treated worse than a shoplifter, and she was NOT stealing. Perhaps the person BEHIND the OP should have done the same thing regarding her improper use of Listerine coupons and had HER banned from couponing at that store and accused her of theft and fraud and had the cashier ask HER to leave the store. It's the same thing.
By all means report it to authorities if you see someone breaking the law. Having some woman try to impose her own couponing methods on me while I am at a store? I don't think so, I don't owe her or anyone else an explanation, and had it been me I would have politely told her to f off and ignored her. There were much better ways to handle this, and I would not have walked away quietly.
The mere fact this business even asked this lady to leave over a f'in coupon is beyond ridiculous."Define yourself do not live by definition"

Personally if she photocopied the coupon then she deserved what she got and I would of made a big scene telling them to call the police, people know you can not photocopy coupons and use them that it is fraud.

Just spoke to Bayer customer service and Walmart does so get reimbursed as long as they followed the conditions of the coupon, so the person you spoke too was misinformed. You can call Bayer if you like 800-268-1331
I'm sure the Manufacturerers don't make coupons just so then can rip off the stores - that's like saying Bayer made this coupon specifically without the "Manufactures Coupon" printed on it just so they don't have to reimburse Walmarts. Not likely in my book.

LOLOLOLOL The police are not going to show up because someone photocopied a coupon lolololol I would be having YOU arrested for harrassment (unprovoked intrusion or interruption, verbal harrassment, libel, etc) and would have a much stronger case. The point is, you have NO idea if this woman photocopied or NOT. The OP is ASSUMING because she had 15 of them, and you know what they say about people who assume. To make a big scene in the middle of a store against a stranger because you THINK they are abusing coupons says more about the person harrassing and attacking them, then the couponer - I only hope people who would make a scene do not have children they teach these unkind lessons to. It's one thing to stand up for something, another entirely to accost a stranger over an assumption.
"Hello 911? I am at a cash at Walmart and the lady in front of me PHOTOCOPIED a coupon! I DEMAND that she be put on death row immediately! What's that? You have a murder, a rape, a burglary and other business to attend? Dammit this is about a PHOTOCOPIED COUPON - this IS an emergency!!!!"Last edited by taylyn; Wed, Aug 17th, 2011 at 03:16 PM.
