Sounds like our Pauline has taken a leaf from Maggie's YTS farce..
yeah..30 years on and I'm still bitter about the waste of my cohorts oppotunity who didn't gett a proper training for a job and it's influence is still troubling British employment .
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Hi OP. I can see your point. Can I please put another spin on this idea? Hear me out. I mean no disrespect.

I have worked with students. I am not a teacher. To get the best out of the students, at the end of the program, we give them an honorarium. The honorarium: a gift cards to their favourite stores. We usually don't give them money.
Some of these students come from low income families. They get to update their resume saying that they worked with us and they get a gift card to Walmart (they get to treat themselves), Canadian Tire (guys like this) or a grocery store (some are hungry and appreciate this).
I can see the same positive effect for giving volunteers an honorarium at the end of their term of service:
The volunteer tends to put more effort into their work.
The volunteer feels more appreciated.
The volunteer starts to talk positively about the agency/employer that they worked with, when they are with their family, friends or community members.
The agency/employer then develops a pool of credible, reliable, high caliber volunteers that they can call upon.
The agency/employer can tap into more grants from charities and government agencies.
The agency/employer can assist to improve their community and the lives of those living in that community.
Just my opinion....
Win-win.
I am all for win-win.
