nolookingca recently asked the following in a comment:
...only a quarter of a candy for replies and two for posts? Isn't that a bit unbalanced?
Personally I find the candy balance to be fair, however, I wish there were different ways to earn different amounts. Like maybe if a post is written in the forum here, and is deemed blog-worthy as a guest post on the SmartCanucks.ca blog, then the original author of said post might receive 5 candies for the honor.
Given the chance, what would you change about the way candies are passed out? This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Given the limitations of the current system, it as balanced as it's going to get. Maybe look for a "smarter" mod?

Lovely idea Canadian Mark
I love your blog idea!
If you have more suggestions for improving the Candy system please share it and I’ll be glad to modify the rules accordingly.
So here are the different ways of earning Candies:
New topic: 2 candies
Reply to topic: quarter of a candy
Amount of bonus candy earned per reply for topic author (I never mentioned this before since it’s a very minute amount): 0.01 of a candy.
Blog-worthy topic (new): 7 candies (Canadian Mark’s idea)
Candy events: variable but I’ll make sure it’s interesting and fun!

Maybe half a candy for each reply?

i agree with nolookingca. Half sounds better than a quarter.

What about something extra for a new post that contains an original deal or freebie? Basically, new posts in the Non-Electronic Deals, Electronics Deals, and Freebies sections could be worth maybe 3 credits instead of the standard 2.
The rule would have to be that it can't be something mentioned elsewhere on the blog or in the forums - completely unique. I think that sort of new post should be worth an extra candy or two - or would that just make the system too complex?

I think a quarter of a candy is perfectly fine..that way it encourages people to start their own posts..and post something interesting...although it doesn't encourage people to reply back to the posts people put up...perhaps the candy for a reply should be bumped up...perhaps what nolookingca suggested would be a better amount....well but that's just my opinion..

Thanks for your suggestions guys and sorry for the late reply. I was busy fine tuning the forum 8)
Reagrding nolookingca, thilipan suggestion of increasing replies to half a candy… I think quarter is better coz
- First of all I think that writing a new post takes much more time than replying back. E.g. it can take 10 seconds to just say thank you but up to 10 minutes to write a clear useful post. I know that’s not always the case and some replies are more useful than original posts but that’s really uncontrollable. I also want to encourage people to post new topics to keep the forum alive.
- The second reason is that half a candy would be too much for me. Don’t forget that these candies are redeemable for real gifts! If I set it up to half a candy I’ll overwhelm myself. I’m trying to setup a sensible rewards system here so that I can honour candy redeems. I hope you understand that half can ruin the whole system.
Mark, your idea sounds interesting but it’s very hard to distinguish between original and unoriginal deal/freebie. The system won’t necessarily be complex but will require a lot of human monitoring which might get tiresome with time.
If you guys have suggestions for candy events please shout it out :D
