Difference between ps3 12 Gb and PS3 500 Gb

you can replace most PS3 HDD with standard computer ones. Do a quick google search to see if that specific model can do it.

The price difference is generally 70$

The 500 GB version usually comes bundled with a game worth ~50$, while the 12 GB version comes without any games included.

Aside from that, the major difference is the games you can play on the console straight out of the box.

The 12 GB version can technically read all ps3 games, however 12 GB is not enough storage for the mandatory update installation that needs to be done for each game. Therefore there are many games that you will not be able to play on the 12 GB console. One poster did mention that you can replace the 12 GB hard drive with a standard laptop drive and yes that would work and eliminate the problem I just mentioned. External storage such as USB keys or hard drives can only be used for media related files, not game saves so

is this a serious question? there is no 16 GB model of the PS3. there is a 12 GB model and a 160 GB model, but the 12 GB is a Super Slim, and the 160 GB is just a Slim model. the difference between the 12 GB and the 500 GB model is only the storage capacity, as they are both the exact same system. the 500 GB system costs more, but it comes with a 500 GB hard drive which you will need for storage, and there are bundles with extra games and even the Playstation plus service which gives you game downloads. the 12 GB PS3 is bare bones, nothing extra included, no hard drive, nothing. just the cables and a controller.
