Thread: Shipping from Amazon.com
-
Wed, Jun 11th, 2014, 03:55 PM #1
How much is the shipping from Amazon.com to Canada (including all the taxes (duty, customs, etc...)? Or approximately how much?
I know that if an item is sold by Amazon.ca and not qualified for free shipping (under $25), the shipping cot is about $5. But what about shipping from the USA Amazon (sold by Amazon.com not other merchandisers)? I don't want to almost finish my shopping and go till the end by entering my credit card details and then find out the shipping, I'm afraid of doing something not right and ending actually buying an item.
Thanks. This thread is currently associated with: Amazon.ca & Amazon.comRelax, enjoy your coffee (tea) and earn money! Any time, when you want!

I think it really depends on what it is. And it's not that difficult to go to the checkout and see what the total is without buying, just don't click, "Place My Order."
Just as an experiment, I just tried putting an item (a beater for my KitchenAid mixer) in my cart that was $25.52. Shipping was $12.98, import fees were $5.87.
On Amazon.ca, a different item that doesn't have free shipping, price is $9, shipping is another $12.67, more than the price of the item!
I don't think there's any way you're going to get an accurate answer until you put the items in your cart and go to the checkout.

It's duty free if the item is under $20, otherwise, you might have to pay HST, plus the $9.95 handling fee. Customs are the ones who decide if you'll pay taxes or not, but there's a good chance you won't.

It depends how it is shipped too
UPS Ground charges a fortune to collect the HST

On the two orders I have purchased from amazon.com the duty fees have always been returned a few weeks after my order arrived.

Actually, the surcharge they charge you is returned, not the duty and taxes. And if customs is cranky, they hit you with fees, that Canada Post charges $15.00 to collect. Was cheaper for me to order from Amazon UK

Canada Post charges $9.95 (plus whatever they are collecting for CBSA for customs, taxes or duty)
UPS (who seem to be popular with Amazon and sellers) charge based on the amount of the item $20 for items $40-100 (list here) I also find that most of the items I have had shipped UPS have had higher CBSA costs attached (they give it an actual cost not what I paid after coupon or use the exchange etc)
FedEx is usually around the same as UPS
