Thread: World Cup of Savings!
-
Fri, Jun 13th, 2014, 08:28 PM #1
With the start of the World Cup, I've decided to issue myself a challenge - to not spend any money out of my bank account from June 12-July 13. I've saved up PC points, gift cards, and a little cash (from selling things on Kijiji) to, I hope, get myself through until the end of the World Cup. Things like rent are obviously excluded, but I wish I could get a month rent-free! I'll post updates on my progress!
I had my first shopping trip today, and spent:
(4) Nature Valley Bars @ $1.77 each (PM Rexall)
(4) Nordica Cottage Cheese @ $2.47 - (4) $1 coupons (tear pad) = $1.47 each
(4) Silhouette tubs @ $1.98 - (2) $1.50 off WUB2 coupons (tear pad) = $1.23 each
(2) 4-pack peppers @ $2.47 (PM No Frills)
3-pack cucumbers @ $2.58 (+ 200 pts)
2-lb baby carrots @ $2.47
Nectarines @ $2.14/kg (PM FreshCo)

Grapes @ $2.14/kg (PM WalMart)
Peaches @ $2.14/kg (PM FreshCo)
(4) Neilson Chocolate Milk @ $0.88 (PM Shoppers)
(2) Dozen Eggs @ $1.77 (PM Shoppers)
Total: $43.50
Redeemed 40,000 PC points ($40), used $3.50 off gift card from previous $10 PC Gift Card WUB 5 Carlton Cards Promotion

Love your thread title and overall challenge!
I thought the $1.77 eggs were a Saturday only deal at SDM? I don't have my flyer in front of me so I might be having a brain fart.

Two more quick shops today:
Stopped in at The Bay (London White Oaks) and picked up 7 bows, 13 cards, and 3 gift bags. All Hallmark, all $0.50! The Bay won't be carrying these items any longer, so they're clearing them out!
Had to dip into my stash of emergency money earlier than I had hoped, but couldn't pass this up! Receipt says I saved $55.07 (before taxes)!
OOP: $0 (used cash from selling unused items on kijiji)
Stopped by the gas station:
Filled up for $60, cashed in 570 air miles.
Free!
OOP: $0
Still on track!

You got a car for World Cup at RCSS? What model?
If you have PC gift cards with a few dollars left on them, stock up on no-name freeze pops @99 cents per 24. You won't be sweating it out in the heat like the soccer players in Brazil! This week my PC Plus offers included 200 pts for every $1 spent on the freeze pops, so multiples are the way to go to get the points.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.
