Fifty Road is going to become the new big box destination. The Costco store likely addresses the absence of one in the east part of Hamilton, as Burlington's store is the current location closest to Stoney Creek.
Not sure that Walmart needs one more store in the area, as Centennial Parkway store is about two years old.
Am not going to hold breath that local transit will feature in the store plans.Last edited by Ciel; Thu, Nov 17th, 2016 at 02:20 PM. Reason: no building has occurred in 2015 yet

There was a recent article about the Costco building going ahead, with a remediation grant from the City of Hamilton for the soil cleaning. However, isn't Costco going to put in a gas station? The Walmart is not going ahead at the location.

Some dirt piling activity has been recently noticed at the future plaza site. No comment from Costco on when or what:
Recently, a few sharp-eyed residents took notice that some heavy equipment created an entrance way off the South Service Road and constructed a dirt road. It led to an area at the back of the property where an elevated pile of dirt was created.
Johnson acknowledged the work being done on the property, but said all the dirt was for future work. She said the owner was “stockpiling” dirt.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Sidewalk discussion to connect neighbourhoods to Winona Crossing. It would take 8 months to await permission from MTO to connect City sidewalks to MTO owned land at overpasses.
https://www.hamiltonnews.com/news-st...about-400-000/
As a pedestrian, I'd recommend that the City move on those permit applications right now. It never ceases to amaze me how new retail developments are allowed without foot connections off the property or considerations for transit.
The article mentions City of Hamilton transit hub. I understood that GO Transit was to have a transit stop/terminal at the big box site. Winona does not have HSR service beyond the Trans-Cab routes that connect to Stoney Creek bus route end of line stops.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

November 2017 opening.
Yesterday's Costco ad in The Hamilton Spectator mentions that the new store is now hiring!
www.costco.ca/jobs was the link but it is better to search for open jobs by location.
Choose Warehouse Opportunities then search by location (Stoney Creek).Last edited by Ciel; Thu, Sep 21st, 2017 at 01:02 PM.

Rainy day but long line of people before sunrise met the new store. Glad to read at least one politician is thinking about pedestrians and sidewalks in the area! https://www.hamiltonnews.com/news-st...winona-costco/

Metro is coming to the big box centre at Fifty Road. Expected to open in Summer 2019!
ommunications specialist for Metro Ontario Inc., Sadie Weinstein, said the store will open this summer at the centre on the corner of Fifty and South Service roads.
“That is all I can share at this time,” she said in an email. “We can confirm more information in May.”2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

One day in the distant future, HSR service will exist to Winona Crossing.
A transit hub continues to be on route for the Winona Crossing shopping centre.
But city representatives say its arrival to the location on the corner of Fifty and South Service roads is still miles out.
“As conventional transit has yet to be extended to this area, the plan to build the transit hub is not in our immediate plans,” transit (HSR) communications officer Amanda Kinnaird said.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.
