Hello Friends!

I am taking part in a brewing competition at work and if I place in the top five in Canada my beer and I get to go to France to compete against brewers worldwide.

About my beer…

RoggenBeard is my interpretation of a roggenbier, an old German beer style which was once considered lost.

Roggenbier translates from German to rye beer. In Germany the use of rye malt was common for brewing beer until the creation the German purity law known as the Reinheitsgebot in 1516 which stated only water, barley, and hops are to be used in brewing beer. For the centuries which followed rye would only be used for baking bread, and roggenbier disappeared for almost five hundred years.

RoggenBeard contains 50% rye so expect a very pronounced spiciness, earthiness, and hearty flavours similar to pumpernickel bread. These flavours are complimented by subtle spicy and floral hop characteristics of Saaz and Tettnang.

This beer is fermented using a traditional German yeast strain which imparts hints of clove like flavors and is served cloudy.


4.8%abv

16.5 ibu

Malts: Rye, Munich, Special B

Hops: Saaz, Tettnang
