Chill in here please. Anyone is certainly within their rights to boycott whatever for whatever. However, on SC, no one has the right to put anyone down, including passive sarcasm like I'm seeing in here.

I just want to put this out there. When you are stacking, companies arent losing a freaking cent. Now, companies might not like stacking but they are not losing money. They have budget allocated for advertising and advertising alone. So, other than putting ads on TV and newspaper they also advertise by sending out coupons. More coupons they send out, more they advertise, more customers are coming to get their items. So, they might for the next 6 months experiance all the coupons that THEY PUT OUT THERE, being used and sent to them but than when they stop with coupons they see customers coming back and buying more of their items, especially people that do not coupon at all. They are the ones paying full prices and thats why it all evens itself out. Even if there wasnt one person that paid regular price for the item, company is still not losing money unless they go over budget, which can only happen if they send out more coupons than budget allowed. Which can happen but most likely wont. So, dont feel bad about stacking. EVER. No one is losing money here.

No they make x coupons knowing 6-8% will be redeemed tops, and they expect the majority of them to be 1 per person (people who grab one off the shelf with a purchase to try something). When you stack, they are not getting the $0.99 on a $1.99 product using the $1 coupon, they are getting nothing in cash. If they wanted people to get them free they would make them for the item price or give a FPC. If they were not losing $$ they would not bother changing the language

They are not losing money. Its all advertising, but of course they wont say, oh here it is for free. In their own behind the door terms, they still want you to pay something. (Foolish us think we are doing them a favor by feeling guilty about stacking) But if you end up not paying anything, they are still not losing money. It is still making the allowed quota of coupons. So, use it on one product all or use it on multiple products per purchase, it makes no difference. It is what its allowed to be used in budget. They already said bye bye to that money when they made coupon budget. I agree they intent was that it should be used 1 coupon per product so that you still pay something. But like I said, there are secrets we do not know. One of the secrets that companies keep away from people are couponing and what is allowed and what not. Wording will most likely change so people can not stack, but the fact still remains companies never lost money on advertising.

Just for clarification: coupons are not only just for trying something new, they are also made specifically for the cost-conscious consumer. They expect us to use coupons regularly.

The reason LD allows stacking is because they state that the wording is a grey area, which is true - it can be interpreted multiple ways. So, unless the companies are very specific with their words (i.e. P&G's fine print), you can technically use two coupons together. In LD's interpretation "cannot be combined with any other offer" is too ambiguous.

I know for sure that since I've started stacking I've also done a lot of free word of mouth advertising for these companies (namely Unilver and J&J). I really like their products and I would not have been able to afford most of them before stacking/couponing. I think they probably tolerate it for this reason, but that is pretty much just a stab in the dark. They can't be completely out of the loop, can they?

The only people that mind stacking and use of the coupons are cashiers and store managers, because its a hassle, not because it is not allowed. Laziness is killing our society. Stupidity of these individuals go hand in hand with laziness. We are given coupons to use them, and I will use them. There is no cashier or store manager that will take that away from me. Or any of us here. Be always step ahead than the next person.

I think this was the best comment on the thread! This has turned into a stacking debate, which has deviated from the OP's original intent.

Being from the West, I am priveleged to be able to stack at LD. Do I do it? Of course I do, I would be crazy not to take advantage of it in my opinion. I realize that it is frustrating to those out East who cannot do so. However I suspect that if those out East were able to do so, they would be, in droves.

I agree that companies make coupons to help us save money, and also to encourage us to try new products. Case in point: I used to only use salon hair products. Because of stacking, I have now tried Dove, and honestly find it far superior to the products I was paying $30+ a bottle for. So even without coupons, I will now always buy Dove. The coupons worked for them and converted me. As well, I now tell everyone else about it and some have tried it and liked it as well. More converts, simply because of my few stacks.

Instead of having an East vs. West mentality, why can't we simply try to work together and help eachother, which is the purpose of this entire site.

I have a "friend" in the East who sends me their stackables so I can benefit from them. I, in turn, stack coupons here in the West and send them products that they are paying through the nose for, and they reimburse me for my expenses (tax and mail or courier costs). We both win.

I would encourage others on here to foster such relationships. It is mutually beneficial, and in my opinion, is really what this site is about, helping eachother to coupon to the best of our ability.

I live in BC and I consider myself blessed to be able to stack. However, I would point out that it doesn't take long to reach the saturation point with shampoo, deodorant, laundry soap etc. I would definitely trade stacking for the much lower food prices in Central and Eastern Canada.

Of course Procter & Gamble was losing money when we were stacking their coupons. They weren't ever intended to be used that way. They intended that the small percentage of people who used coupons would use one per item....not 3 or 4 or 5. Their advertising budget allowed for discounted merchandise not tons of free stuff.

I am finding that there are still lots of great stacking deals out there at London Drugs and every time I go in and come out having saved 80% - 90% off my bill I am elated. Without stacking it is still possible to save a good chunk of money...

That's just my 2 cents worth...

Meh, I still appreciate coupons as they are, stackable or not.
Still saves me a ton of money every year, regardless.

Why are we so naive when it comes to couponing? Its a shame that people still today think that there are companies that are losing money when they advertise and print coupons. Shame!
