Hi, My name is Cathy and I'm new on here, so I don't really know what I'm doing!
I am a SAHM of two school-aged kids, and am looking to make a little money. No get rich quick schemes, just a little extra cash.
I recently placed an add on a local online cassifieds page, and received quite a few responses. I'm very paranoid about scams, and I'm sure that most of the responses are. Two of them caught my eye though, and I'm wondering if any of you have ever heard of them. They are: Consumer Connection (mystery shopper), and SPAR National (merchandising). I don't know anything much about either the jobs, or the companies. Also, is there any way to make any money from my computer?
Sorry for all the questions, but again, I'm new to all this stuff, and you people sound like you know what you are doing!
Any help, suggestions, or advice would be most welcome!
Thanks,
Cathy

Hi mytwoboys!
I tried mystery shopping. It was more work than it's worth!
Merchandising is also not an at-home job. They expect you to go to stores and fill up store shelves and place advertising information in the store. I haven't done it yet, but I know people who do.

I did the same on Kijijihere in NS....I was completely bombarded. There were some interesting ideas, however I don't think they are legit. Just putting money in someone else's pocket. If you find something legit, let me know :o) I did my first mystery shop Friday. I got fantastic grades and had fun...but it is alot of work. Lots to write down and then submit. Cross your fingers and hope it was right or no reimbursement. It can be pricey considering I spent 100.00 at 5 different stores that day. I haven't been paid my money back yet, but I'm sure it will come soon .....all the best!

Hello and welcome to SC!
Don't forget to introduce yourself on the "new to Smart Canucks" thread.
To get you started, here are some good things for cash or gift cards that I have read on the forum and participate in personally:
* Pinecone - they pay $5 per survey, plus you have the occasional opportunity to get sample products to try at home - sign-up is via referral email or referral online banners only
* Pigsback (recommend you join via a referral from an existing member)
* GlobalTestMarket - They pay about 5-100 points (1 point= $0.01) per survey, surveys are fairly frequent - you can cash out at $50
Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, while it's on my mind too....don't pay anyone for a list of survey sites that pay. It's not worth the $30 bucks....believe me. You can find all those site FREE online. Stuffing envies is a bit of a scam and "processing application" whatever that means. The companies I contacted want you to send them money so they can in turn send you the supplies......a little henky if you ask me.

Alajen is right....those are great. I would love to join Pinecone but it is really hard!! WebPerspectives is fantastic too. I had 3 x $10 surveys and 1 x $50 focus group. All paid via PayPal.

Thanks to everyone who replied so far, you all have some great advice. I learned the hard way about the survey thing - did it for 2.5 years and ended up with the following; $8.00 in my paypal acct., a $10.00 old navy gc, and a set of make-up brushes....and to answer everyones question, yes, I am a slow learner!
Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by referral e-mail (Pinecone and Pigsback), and why is it hard to join Pinecone?
Thanks

Pinecone is so hard because from what I understand they only open up Canadian registrations one time a year. I just missed mine in November I guess :o( In order to sign up you have to "bump" into their banner or pop up ad. They have specific requirements so if you are lucky enough to sign up, they may not choose you to be a panelist. Referral links to other sites...Pigsback....is you sign up under someone who already has an account. It gives them extra points, credits etc for signing you up. Hope that helps :o)
