Cleaning ones Keyboard

What is the best and safest way to clean a computer keyboard? I have spilled coffee on it, crumbs galore from eating @ desk etc. I shake the keyboard but I don't think that's a good idea, i even vacuum the keyboard. Just a bit a of OCD perhaps! Any suggestions it's very dirty and i don't like that!

Hmm, you could try a damp q-tip to clean that way...and wipe down with a lysol wipe. That is what I have been doing.

I actually popped off some keys and then couldn't remember where they went!!!
Won't do that again. Had to get the keys off because my daughter spilled something and the keys were sticking.

did the same thing and then could not remember where everything goes... had to get a new keyboard *LOL* that's a wile ago and this one needs a major clean up, it's gray now *LOL* yuck!!

Apparently, you can put keyboards in the dishwasher, if you have it with NO heat.

you can buy a can of like compressed air or something, i dunno what its called, but you spray it on the keyboard and everything comes fling up

To clean mine, I pop off all of the keys and soak them in soapy water for a bit and then rinse. While waiting for them to air dry completely I take a Q-tip between everything else. Then pop them all back on.

For those who aren't sure where everything goes, there's two tricks:
• For those who have a laptop in addition to a desktop, have it out and compare key placement.
• For those who don't, lookup your keyboard online and load a clear pic displaying all of its keys. Do this first before taking your keys off though.. lol

I always worry about cleaning my labtop - I don't know if
the keys pop off since I haven't tried to do it. I just clean
in and around while it's off with a damp cloth.

Someone said that the keys and the mouse are full of ....
GERMS LOL They must have peeked at mine!!

thank you for your advice. i turned over the keyboard and took out the screws my keyboard keys don't come out unless you pop out. i used a hand brush with Avon bubble bath and cleaned really good and rinsed and placed in the sun to dry. very clean now! only problem is my up & down arrow keys don't work now.

Apparently, you can put keyboards in the dishwasher, if you have it with NO heat.

I would not risk that.

Canned air and you can get ambitious and unscrew the back and lift off the top piece where the keys are to get at underneath. Like others have said q-tips work great with a little water on them. You can also try toothpicks with tissue wrapped around the end or use them to dig out gunk without the tissue.

Remove your arrow keys and check to see there's no remaining moisture - it's sooo important that the keys are completely dry.

Also, arrow keys tend to have a bit of a slant to them and go on a certain way - it could be that, or they may not be aligned properly underneath. I found if everything wasn't the same that some keys would stick unless fixed.
