breaking news
Egyptian security forces have mistakenly killed 12 Mexican tourists during an anti-terrorism operation, Egypt's interior ministry says.
The tourists were travelling in four buses that entered a "banned area" in the Wahat area of the Western Desert, the ministry said in a statement.
Ten Mexicans and Egyptians were also injured and are being treated in a local hospital.
The ministry said it had formed a team to investigate the incident.

Oh, my heavens! You trust someone, some company to know where it's safe to go, where the dangers are, then something like this happens! We were so lucky with our driver and guide when we visited there and the timing was so fortunate...everywhere we visited that summer...Greece, Turkey, Egypt seemed to politically implode after we left...so terribly sad....

It's still possible to visit that region of the world without being caught up in the melee'. I mean with all the kidnapping and cartels in Mexico, it still isn't stopping people including Canadian (some whom are themselves smuggling drugs for biker groups or gangs in BC). I'll go to Egypt again round about now as it is cheap. One of my best visits was when I got to bribe a guard to left me take a pic lying down in a Mummy Tomb on an evening visit. Valley of the kings and Alexandria were interesting as well
