A CP is definitely something you should have professional help with. Looking at how it may affect your future goals is important too as it will have a negative impact on your credit for awhile.

Have you tried to talk to your creditors to lower your rate? make a payment plan?

I think you can start with CP, but the discipline comes from you. I find the problem with CP is that they charge you for the service they provide (well, the reality is that they gota be paid from somewhere, and the creditors are not going pay, so it has to be you); it is included in the calculation. And the thing is, if you already tight on money, do you really want to pay more out of your pocket? If you pick up the phone and try to negotiate a payback rate with your creditors, I would do that, unless your communication has broken down with creditors, then I would use CP.
