I'm looking for a desktop with i7 and at least 4G RAM, don't care about other specs

any deal? When is the best time to buy?

    How is this one:
    Dell xps 8300 with i7(8M Cache 3.4GHz), 8G RAM, =1156.99-357-25-5% = 736.24 + tax = 836. 02
    8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMs, No Monitor, 500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache, Blu-ray Combo Drive (8X BD-R, DVD+/-RW) with DVD+R double layer write capability, Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English, AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB

    also considering this one Dell xps 8300 with i5(6M Cache, 3.0GHz), 8G RAM = 787.99 - 138 -25 -5% = 593.74 +tax = 674.99
    8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMs, No Monitor, 500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache, Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability, Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English, AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB

Does the higher performance of i7 justify the $150 price difference?

wait until black friday or boxing day.....you will get the best deal that way......

black friday this year is November 25 (day after american thanksgiving)

check sites like Newegg.ca, tigerdirect.ca, ncix.com, and memoryexpress.com for deals

i7 is worth the extra $$.....but i bet if you wait and check these other sites i mentioned you will get it cheaper

Yes, I fully agree that you should wait. I say wait for cyber monday if you're going to buy on-line. And I would fork up 150$ for an i7.
I've gotten more than 300$ of gift cards. You can also do so by joining swagbucks:

I don't see much of a need to upgrade from i5 to i7 unless you're using your computer for intensive applications like Virtualization or heavy Gaming.

The difference between i5 and i7 isn't that much with the current generation, and I really doubt you'll notice the difference. I would probably even recommend a i5-2500 if were using your system for intensive applications, as the difference between this and the i7-2600 is so small.
