If the coupon was entered correctly it would have eliminated any tax

There should be no GST - and some provinces, like Sask., have also removed the provincial tax.

There shouldn't be any tax on these if you are in ON.

Conservatives remove federal tax on feminine hygiene products as of July 1
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...ticle24667909/Opponents of the tax have long decried it as being entirely discriminatory, as it is only paid by women, and on an essential product, while other goods deemed as luxuries escape the levy altogether.
After the motion passed, the government said they would make the change in a future budget bill, but on Thursday a notice appeared from Finance Canada that the tax would indeed disappear on July 1.
Why the change is happening now wasn’t immediately clear. Finance Minister Joe Oliver, who is overseas for G7 meetings, was not available for comment. Conservative MP Michelle Rempel called the change in line with the government’s lower-tax policies.
The New Democrats suggested another reason — it’s an election year.

Yes, for free product coupon, you should not have been dinged the pst either. But some cashiers either do charge or don't charge the tax on FPC. Not all are on the same page.
Like Anna Michele posted, the code entered determines the no tax rate on the FPC.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

What? I thought we don't pay taxes on feminine hygiene products, at my local SOF if you buy said advertised items with points as a bonus and absolutely no taxes just twelve dollars and bonus points with 75 SOF points
