2015 tax returns (2016 tax-filing season)

Rec'd my UCCB tax slip, happy it's here NOT happy it's taxable, I knew it was taxable so no biggie. Still need 2 more T4's and then I'm good. I need to call the pharmacy and get them to print out our prescription medications for 2015 for all 4 members.

We can't do our tax returns until April by the time all the RRSP and TFSA stuff arrives. It is a pain because I would rather it was over and done with.

Turbo Tax FREE online version is still not certified by CRA for NETFILE.

all other paid versions are certified , go figure ! So be careful, if you are using the FREE Turbo tax version, at the last step, when you go to file the return, you will get the message, it can't be Netfiled.

If you file electronically it is usually in your bank by direct deposit in under 2 weeks. I file electronically, give it 3-4 days to be in the system and then check my CRA account online. It usually tells me when it will be deposited into my bank account.

4-6 weeks applies to mailed-in tax returns (to your tax centre) during tax season for your Notice of Assessment. After April 30, 6-8 weeks wait period for a Notice of Assessment applies (as the temporary tax-season staff are no longer in the buildings).

Its almost the same one. But the free one doesn't guide you and give you tips and reminders step by step. You have to pretty much know what you are doing and what forms and slips ypu have to fill up.

you can try both online if you want.

The paid one online you don't have to pay till the last step, when you actually Netfile. So you can go upto that last step and then bail out and just note down the refund you are getting on a paper.

then use the free one to actually file your tax in case the numbers match in both.

Netfile direct deposit will be in 8-10 days.

When you file electronically, it will immediately show Received under My Account , then after 4-5 days it will show Assessed under My Account on CRA, and then it will tell you when it will be Direct Deposited in your account usually 8-10 days.

4-6 weeks is for paper returns.
