2015 tax returns (2016 tax-filing season)

This is my first year ever doing my own taxes - I used Turbo Tax. Before I just gave my things to my accountant - but last year it cost me $120, and I didn't have anything besides some tuition credits that were carried over and OSAP interest payments, and a T4 slip working one of the elections.

My taxes are still simple this year - just a T4 and the same credits/payments....and it took me about 30 minutes to file myself. I also loved that Turbo Tax recommended I carry over my charity donations, as they would do nothing for my current return.

Best part - I already know exactly how much I'm getting back, and that it will deposited on the 14th!

Turbo Tax for low income people in Quebec is no longer free.

The FREE version online is free for ALL income groups. The only problem is that it doesn't guide you or give you tips like the paid version. It doesn't walk you through.

Basically from a drop down list you have to select the forms and slips you need to fill up. So beforehand you need to know and have some knowledge about taxes.

You pretty much need to know, what you are doing and what forms and slips, you need to fill up.

Your 2015 return was assessed on March 7, 2016.


Still have not received a deposit though. Odd. Maybe tomorrow morning?

Does it tell you, when your Notice Of Assessment will be available ? I.e the Date ?

Then that exact same date the Direct Deposit will also be made. NOA is available online or mailed out on the same day the Direct Deposit is made.

Well now I'm confused because you both just said something completely different. We both signed up for direct deposit, both set of taxes have been assessed and our NOA's are available online. We were both supposed to get returns but neither of us got them.

When we net-filed we were told it would take 8-10 business days to receive our money but I'm thinking it may have actually been the same amount of time or quicker just to mail in paper copies like we used to.

So both of your NOA's are already available online ? And if you can already see them , then there is something wrong. The DD should have been done by now.

My timeline is below :

Feb 22 - Monday - Netfiled Online - Showed Received immediately on same day.

Feb 25 -Thursday - Return was Assessed

March 3 - Direct Deposit was made. Notice of Assessment was also available the same day.

no it doesn't because I only have limited access until I get a code in the mail which they said takes 10 business days to receive. I'll most likely receive my NOA in snail mail before that lol.

This is the first year you're filing online then? I would imagine you'd be getting the deposit today or tomorrow or at the very latest next week sometime.

ty @momof5boys it finally all worked itself out. I was able to use the Auto fill by going to CRA site eventually, so just not sure what happened with that first attempt. I am done ALL 4 of the returns now and glad I do not have to think about it for another year!

The CRA site let us look at the NOA's and given the option to print if we wanted to. Fastest processing ever I think?

Received my Notice of Assessment in the mail yesterday. The new format of the document reminds me of the revised phone bill-black and white.

The CRA site let us look at the NOA's and given the option to print if we wanted to. Fastest processing ever I think?

No wonder that Saturday deposit date made no sense at all!
The deposits were NOT in our account on the 12th so so yesterday I went back into the CRA accounts and I see now all 4 have indeed been processed and the deposits will go in on Thursday ( Happy St Paddy's Day to us!! It's all about the green!! )

The 2015 year's deposit info is listed now directly below 2014's.
I JUST got new eyeglasses too......hrmph!

Make sure you put that eyeglass invoice in your 2016 tax file! Great that you caught the dates and know the correct ones!

I just decided to do the taxes and downloaded the 2015 Studio Tax thing then I chose the option of going through the CRA site for Auto Fill of the form. Well it has been spinning for well over 10 minutes already with this message
" the system is processing your request, this may take several minutes, your session will be closed and you will redirected shortly , Please wait"

I am too nervous to click on anything now! I have to wait I guess. Is there a chance the CRA site is overloaded with business right now?

I had the same thing happen with me. I eventually got an "error" message. I think it might be due to the fact my computer might need some new software or something. I'm not sure. But I gave up on trying to use the "autofill" and just did it myself.

March 17, seems to be the default direct deposit date for this week. I know someone else who is also getting it tomorrow, March 17.

I guess every week CRA seems to have 1-2 days maximum per week that DD is done. So I don't think they do it 5 days a week or 7 days a week.

They seem to gather all the assessed returns and dump them in a batch on those selected 1-2 days per week they have selected.

Yes Direct Deposit will be exactly on the same day.
