No really a bad parent but a rude parent.
Scene: I'm waiting in the line to pay. There is one cashier. The line is getting long. People are cutting through the long line to get to their shopping aisle. So, I curve the line. So people could go around and shop.
Lady#1 comes up to the line. Says to me, go ahead. She is very pregnant so I say, please go ahead. She says Thank you.
Lady#2 comes up to the line. She sees me and keeps the line straight. The line is curved. I'll call her Mable. Mable has 2 girls, about 6 years old. They are buying hula hoops.
Lady#3 comes up to the line. She says, "I don't know where the line ends?"
I say with a smile, "The line ends here. Behind me."
Mable says, 'Who made you the police of the line?"
Instead of replying like Mable, I say to Mable, with a smile, "Why don't you go ahead?"
Mable says "No".
I say, "But I insist."
Line is moving.
So I say to Mable's little girls, with a smile, "Go ahead girls". They do. Mable follows.
First little girl says, "Thank you", to me.
Second little girl says "Yes, thank you lady".
Another cashier is called and opens another lane. Line moves faster.
The little girls start hula hooping in line, and come back to me in the line to show me how good they are. Mable calls them back, shouting, "The cashier has to scan those. Get back here!"
I say to the ladies behind me, "Sorry you are held back. Go ahead. I'm not in a hurry."
The ladies say, "You had to put up with her rudeness (speaking of Mable), so you should not have to wait.
Question: How is it possible to have two polite little girls but a rude mother?

Funny you mentioned school. I was workiing with a teacher at a school last year. Before I spoke to the class, the teacher told the small children to remember what they learned about how to welcome a guest. There were five reminders of how to treat a guest, printed on the white board. That class was run very efficiently. Each child knew where they should be, at what time, how to behave and what the teacher expected.
So, I guess it IS possible for the children to be well behaved even if the parents may not be well behaved.

Ah, Miss Optimist is here.
I love how you kept your cool. " But I insist " You are awesome!
Maybe Mother Hen is generally well collected but lost her cool?
Maybe she instills manners into her girls but forgets to use them herself?
Why is the sky blue? ()

@frugal50 , you could be right.
Spotted the Target teen worker at Costco the other day. Glad he got a job at Costco. They liked him so much at Target that they made him evening manager a few times. Some teens turn out great.
