So my husband is going to have his first 3 week vacation next year 2017 and we are talking about taking a vacation across canada from Quebec to BC possibly up and down the west coast (california to alaska) once we get there as we've not been out west. So we've discussed renting some sort of van/camper combo but we aren't ready to put this kind of mileage on our car. We don't want something we have to pull so we are really looking for something that drives that isn't too large which we can sleep comfortably in. However in looking up pricing on rv rentals, camper rentals etc it seems ridiculously expensive.....paying 3000 before we've paid for gas seems sort of crazy. So I am wondering if any smart canucks who's done long road trips have any advice. How would you drive across the country in a family of 3 comfortably? The other thing I have thought is finding someone who's desperate to sell theirs and then just resell it when we get back.....of course the worry is....what if it breaks down in the middle of no where. If you know of Quebec or Ontario based rental companies that are extra reasonable or have general advice for renting transport for a long road trip it would be very appreciated.

Via Rail sleeper train from Toronto to Vancouver. Many stops so you can explore. Fly back as part of the package. Book with a tour group for group discount savings. Most people book now for next year.
