So I went to SDM last night to do a redemption. Aside from being a bit short for a second redemption for today, someone stole my cell phone!!! I'm pretty sure I had it in my cart and then 2 minutes later I didn't. The really sucky thing is that if the pharmacist didn't ignore me and the front cashier be a total ditz, I may have gotten it back - I saw it was missing within a couple of minute and I had only been near the pharmacy, so I wanted to use their phone to call, but the pharmacist either ignored me or didn't see me and went to serve someone else who was at the other counter dropping off a prescription - if whoever took it was still nearby I would have heard it ring.
Then I went to the front of the store where the stupidest cashier I have ever seen was (I had already done a transaction with her 5 minutes earlier to know that that my binder of coupons had more common sense than she did). I asked if anyone turned in a phone (no) and then I asked if I could use their phone to call it. She kept saying there was no phone, it hadn't been turned in. I had to ask another cashier who was helping a customer if I could use the phone because the dumb sack of puffy hair did not understand the question 'can I use your phone?'. By the time I was able to use a phone whereever my cell phone was, it had been turned off. I don't have money to replace the thing, even with my redemptions, lol. And Bell seems to have made it impossible to report it missing/stolen via their website and of course their customer service has been closed since then. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Perhaps the cashier was dumb, but we all are dumb at times.
Trust no one, purses and possessions that belong in purses or pockets should be touching our bodies at all times.
Circumstances made it difficult for you to be able to call your phone, but the blame doesn't lie with the cashier or pharmacist. Christmas season is notorious for thefts.Last edited by frugalkitty; Sun, Dec 4th, 2011 at 10:59 AM.

I never said the pharmacist or cashier was to blame. I said that perhaps I may have been able to get my phone back if it had not been for them. MAY, not would have.
The cashier was beyond dumb. She didn't know how to enter a coupon, she didn't know how to even void a transaction because she also didn't know how to reload a gift card. Yes, she was fairly new, but the cashier supervisor showed her 30 seconds earlier how to reload a gift card and she still couldn't manage it. A simple question of 'may I use your phone?' should not result in 'no phone has been turned in' for an answer. A customer requesting to use a phone is a simple request, not one that I should have had to repeat a half dozen times for her to understand and yet she still didn't, even as I was pointing to the store phone.
I'm crossing my fingers that it's somewhere, and just a dead battery, but since I saw it in my purse a few minutes earlier I think it's unlikely. Yes, my purse and my phone should stay on my body, but in the shopping cart that I am putting items into should suffice as well. I've had my cell phone and the same cell number for 10+ years without it being stolen from me, I am clearly aware of where my items are without someone having to be on their high horse to tell me I should wear every single thing that is worth something. And apparently you missed the part of my post where I said it was a RANT! As in I need to make a comment or complaint, it doesn't mean anything - just don't read it then.

Listen, just because you post a "rant" doesn't mean I am required to respond the way you feel I should. You posted something and I responded. As far as you instructing me what to read and what not

(correct let me put it back to the orginal- no need for the previous edit - "moo")Last edited by frugalkitty; Sun, Dec 4th, 2011 at 11:44 AM.

I'm sorry aww--that's an awful feeling knowing you may have been able to ring it and find it and then you couldn't because of the cashier etc. I would have been totally frustrated too....I hope it turns up!!!

Nice edit on your post frugalkitty. What a way to change what you originally posted. To each their own.
Thanks krempy. I was finally able to get through to my phone provider and put a temporary cancellation or whatever they call it (negative something) on my phone. It appears that the $7 monthly fee I've been paying for over a year would quality me for a new replacement phone for only $100. I'm still crossing my fingers that it gets found since there is nothing wrong with my current phone even if it's 'old' by today's smartphone standards, lol.
I knew there's a good reason why I never do banking, paypal, etc. on my phone. Off to change my e-mail and facebook passwords because I did use my phone to access those regularily at least.
And if it was indeed stolen and somehow not in the black hole which doesn't exist in my purse, then I guess it was bound to happen - in over 31 years I've only ever been the victim of theft a few times - twice, things were stolen from me in a church - including a purse, 10 years ago (really, who does that????) and once I had some meaningless items stolen from a vehicle when I had a moment and failed to lock it overnight.Last edited by aww; Sun, Dec 4th, 2011 at 12:07 PM. Well I did the happy dance when the girl got me the last PS3 games on two titles.
Then I find out someone hacked my account a couple of hours earlier, changed my name, address, email, and DOB then transfered all my points out.
I actually cried at the till!
Sh*tty days happen.Shhh.... I am saving money.

Oh, michelle (I assume that's your name), that is utterly horrible. Was it part of that thread that was on SC earlier about many people having their points transferred out? I am really hoping that SDM does something to rectify it - it's stupid that all you need is the card number and a postal code in order to transfer points, I don't think that's acceptable at all. I would offer to send you points once you get your card straightened out but I only have 140 points left after a redemption today. I really hope your day gets better.
Aside from that my day got better. Somehow my darn cell phone was stuck between pages in my coupon binder. I had flipped through the thing at least a half dozen times today to pull out some coupons to use during a second redemption today, and didn't find it, plus looking in it last night for the phone. Then in another SDM this afternoon the little fugitive of a phone made an appearance. I'll definitely start paying better attention now, lol, and the coupon binder is getting 20 lashes with a wet noodle for harbouring the cell phone.Last edited by aww; Sun, Dec 4th, 2011 at 04:19 PM.

Michelle!!! That is HORRIBLE. I hate how the dishonesty comes out in people more so at this time of year. Last year I "lost" $100.00 at WalMart. It was in my wallet and then it was gone. I asked the person behind me if she saw any money implying I dropped it and of course she didn't.
I hope you get your points back.

Lol, I was thinking what kind of idiot steals a cell phone that is not a smart phone? They are pretty much worthless. Glad your binder was the theif, gives me more hope for humanity.
Bell should really get a rewards program. We use Fido and the only reason I don't have an ancient phone is because I break them... But I usually have enough Fido dollars that I get a free phone.

I sent an email to SDM asking to investigate. I hope they will honor my points and maybe the bonus part too. I will not accept any transfers from anyone, unless it is a fair trade!
I will be pushing for changes in their online security!!!
I am starting to believe it was a hack to their system and just a coincidence with all the transferring points here on SC. One thing in common was checking balances online around midnight on Friday.
*I too, thought I lost my "small special coupon folder" that I keep in my purse. PANIC at the tills! It turned out to be hiding inbetween the pages of my massive binder! Come January 1st, it is getting a good clean out and I will only take/keep what I use!Shhh.... I am saving money.

I don't blame you. It gets out of hand quite quickly. I too am going to keep just what I need plus a few for trading as I don't have the luck that other have in finding the inserts

aww - all's well that ends well. Happy for you.
Michelle - how in blazes did someone manage to hack your account? So sorry to hear that! Hackers are criminals. - mean nasty ones. I hope SDM gives you back your points, and yes, make their systems a lot more secure too!

I think you are correct.
I am sorry the OP lost the cell phone.
Purses, wallets, cell phones and even coupon binders should be in your possession at all times. Children should never be left unattended in a cart or in an aisle by themselves, because some will take them too.
