I remember someone from the last weeks coupon swap saying they can only use liquid and that the tabs didn't work for her.

    Possible product trade?

perhaps your water needs to be a little hotter. I turned mine up a few degrees and it did the trick when I first used that detergent.

I did not know that the water in Edmonton was so hard till the sprayer arm in my dish washer broke off. All of the holes were plugged with soap scum & lime.

My DH got some very strong dish washer cleaner (not sold in stores) from a repair store on 118 ave & 140 ish st. We has so much buildup in the dishwasher that even that stuff did not clean it 100%.

I started using the Q gel packs 8 months ago and over time it removed all of the build up. We run the sani/temp sense cycle to get the water super hot.

Maybe that stuff on your dishes was the scum being removed with use of Q. Have you checked to see if there is scum build up? Try running it empty with 2x the soap in temp sense mode and keep turing the dial back so it will not drain. Hope that helps.

or you can try running vinegar through your dishwasher to get rid of all the scum but i find that i get thatproblem with the powder stuff and can only use the packs of cascade.

    Good point couponcrazy86.
We stopped using the powder stuff as well. Running the temp sense cycle will use less energy than turing up the temp on your hot water tank.

We tried vinegar 5% first - did not work
Moved up to CLR - nothing
Then TSP - removed some of the scum
Found "Dishwasher Magic" 27.7% Citric Acid OMy! at the repair shop & that stuff worked.

Good to know. We use only the tabs/Quantum as we just couldn't get the liquid/powder to work in the dishwasher (even though it's new). I think the water is just so hard it makes cleaning hard too.

The repair store referred to would be called "Reliable Parts", they used to be on 142 St just north of 118 Ave but have moved to 149 St a bit south of 118 Ave - I have gotten dishwasher cleaner there before too. It's also a great store if you need small parts for appliances, like a new drawer or door shelf for your fridge, etc.

For anyone that swears only by the Cascade packs, I had some family members say it's the only thing that works for them but I gave them some of the Finish Quantum tabs to try and they said it worked just as well as the Cascade packs that are orange. I just stick to the Finish because it's nearly free to get.

I didn't like the quantum power tabs, they didn't clean or dry as well as Cascade powder or gel packs. I'm using Cascade liquid right now, and I don't like it because it leaves a strong smell. Food bank would probably take the dishwasher liquid if the other suggestions don't work.

You can also use Gillett's Cream of Tartar (little tiny box found in with the baking supplies) to clean the soap scum/hard water residue from your dishwasher. Sounds weird but it works. I would say run it a few times after you clean it (using whatever method you decide on) and see if it works better...can't hurt, right?

Cream of Tartar, I haven't heard of using it for dishwasher cleaning but why not, lol. It is cheapest found usually in the bulk section if your grocery store has bulk spices/seasonings/baking things, or Bulk Barn. Something makes me think that Cream of Tartar is the leftover remnants of the barrels when vinegar is made - or something along those lines, so perhaps it's strongly acidic?
