So last week my husband and I are getting ready to sign our new mortgage documents for our new home that we take possession of this Friday. I was calling and calling my mortgage broker with TD trying to find out what date we were to go in and sign when I decide finally to call her boss to get an answer. Her boss calls me back later that evening to tell me she was let go and that a new broker will be calling me to deal with the case. Okay fine no big deal everything is basically done all we have to do is sign. I get a call from the new mortgage broker saying I have to look thru her files find everything and when I do I will get in contact with you. A day goes by and I have heard nothing. Friday, a week before possession, he calls and says we can't find any of her paper work we have to start from square one. WHAT!!!! I was so mad. So he gives us a list of things we need and one is a letter from my employer saying that I will be returning to my position and how much I will be making (I am on mat leave). I don't exactly work in a stable field and I have been fighting for a permanent position for a few years and finally got one and than found out I was pregnant. OPPS. But I still thought no big deal, I figured he would at least send me a letter. Nope here we are Tuesday and I am just about to get in the car and get this letter and I call and he is gone for the night at noon. I don't know what to do, I am so stressed out that we could lose our home over a letter of employment.

Do you have a copy of your ROE from when you started mat leave? Explain to the bank that your boss has a conflicting schedule - you may not even need the letter from your boss, but moreso from the accounting department (think payroll). In the least, your ROE would have how much you've made at the job in the last year or six months or something, basically the same thing your mat leave is based on.

Was the mortgage pretty much a done deal, aside from signing papers or was there still more paperwork to do? Had you needed to provide proof of income or employment to the mortgage broker that got canned? Hopefully the bank realizes it's not easy to necessarily get the papers from your work when you are on mat leave. If you do get ahold of your boss or accounting, they may be able to fax the letter right over to the bank on your behalf to save you hassle, and the bank time, in receiving and processing stuff.

I had to provide that kind of letter too. Kicker was my job which I was "going back too" was in Saskatchewan and we were buying a house in Alberta. I think I called head office and talked to someone in payroll. All they need (if I remember correctly) is your mat leave date, when you're expected back and your pay. You shouldn't have to go through your boss. Unless I'm completely wrong they have to supply that letter for you because they have to keep your job for you while you're on mat leave.

Granted I could be completely wrong with this and if I am I apologize. Good Luck, things will work out

I finally got my letter from him. I would have gone to payroll but he outsource and I'm not sure who the company is. I work for a really small company 5 full-time employees and the 10 seasonal staff. There really was no one else I could get the letter from other than the owner. But at least I did and now we are off to sign lawyer docs and we take possession Friday morning. Yeah that seemed like just a dream at the beginning of this.
