In the old days theatres actually used real butter when they literally pumped it on the popcorn

I found a spray bottle at Dollarama that sprayed a fine mist. Just spray over the top of the popcorn and then add the salt. Give it a toss.
I also use the spray bottle in heating up flour tortillas in the microwave.

Thanks, pady - I have tried that. What do you spray with - water? Oil? i sprayed once with coconut oil but while I don't taste it when I use it for cooking or baking, I could taste the coconut on the popcorn and didn't care for that.

Yes, just water.

We have one of those oil pump spray bottles that I tried melted butter in once.... didn't work
That would have been ideal.
