MODS - sorry if this post in the wrong place...

Does anyone know if the Scanning Code of Practice has changed?

A long time ago, i had memorized the fine print details of the Scanning Code of Practice sign (the one that has to be displayed in stores). Today, I had an issue with cashier not wanting to give my item free, and when I tried to show her the details on their sign, I noticed the sign has changed and some details are missing.

    The new signs say:
"If the scanned price of a non-price ticketed item is higher than the shelf price or any other displayed price, the customer is entitled to receive the first item free, up to a $10 maximum. If a Code of Practice problem cannot be resolved at the store level, please call 1-866-499-4599 to register your complaint."
(taken from the official site: http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/cb-bc.nsf/vwapj/ct02381e.pdf/$FILE/ct02381e.pdf)

The old sign (or the one I memorized) said:
"If the scanned price of a non-price ticketed item is higher than the shelf price or any other displayed price, the customer is entitled to receive the first item free, up to a $10 maximum. If the item is more than $10 the customer is entitled to $10 off the lowest advertised or displayed price. If a Code of Practice problem cannot be resolved at the store level, please call 1-866-499-4599 to register your complaint."
(See the old sign here: "http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/510/wmscopgz7.jpg)

The information in the official pamphlet still seems to be the same, so why change the sign?

    Anyone know?

PS - my issue with the cashier was what price I get the $10 off of - regular price or lower price - I did finally get my item free, but it took 2 managers

Weird that it was changed. But really it still means the same thing

If it was just $10 off, and the correct sale price is more than $10 different, then you would be losing out from the actual price, which makes no sense.
Therefore, it would have to be $10 off the lower correct price.

Also, because it says free up to $10, that would imply that the first $10 is 'free' aka covered for by the store. Any remainder you would pay. If there is no remainder, then it doesn't matter.

This change just means you need to spend more time "discussing" it with managers and cashiers...
Appreciate my help? I'd also appreciate it if you used my referrals

I think on the third page of the official policy it seems to say pretty much the same .

    http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/cb-bc.n...E/ct02381e.pdf

On a claim being presented by the customer, where the scanned price of a product at
checkout is higher than the price displayed in the store or than advertised by the store,
the lower price will be honoured; and

    (a) if the correct price of the product is $10 or less, the retailer will give the product to
the customer free of charge; or

    (b) if the correct price of the product is higher than $10, the retailer will give the customer
a discount of $10 off the corrected price.

By corrected price ..I am sure they mean the lower advertised/displaced price & not the regular price ..but the wording could be more clear ..looks a bit vague/ambiguous .

If you are a customer you think that the correct price is the lower advertised price & if you are the retailer you think that the correct price is the higher regular price .
