What is in the cloth wipes?
Are the wipes moist or dry?
If moist, what is in the ingredient list?
    Just curious.

Just found some Cottonelle wipes we got with a free product coupon.
    Read the ingredients.
Half way down, guess what, contains petroleum - AKA Valeline.
So the wipes have similar ingredients to Valeline.

    Who knew.

We used vasoline a lot for our first baby and for the first few weeks of our second (for both the circumcision and sticky poop). I still use it occasionally for preventing diaper rash, but I've found that penaten works better if there's actually a rash already. The hospital does recommend using vasoline as needed.

I got a package on clearance right before I was due. They come in velour, or flannel... they are pretty much two pieces of fabric serged together. They are dry, however when using them you can wet them with a solution/spray babies bottom with the solution, or run them under hot water and wring them out before using.

My friend made the solution for me, but you can also buy wipe solution I believe. There was oil to help keep the skin soft, soap to remove traces of urine and feces, essential oil which is optional... and only used for antibacterial or aromatherapy... and then water which is obviously the main ingredient as it helps dilute everything else.

Then just pop them in the wash once you're done.

I stopped using them once I ran out of solution. I started stacking for huggies wipes and haven't had to pay for them since. While the cloth wipes were free and a great option, I stayed with the huggies because they were more convenient... and my dog can't dig through the dirty laundry to eat the poop off of them. LOL.

I use cloth wipes and I just wet them with water or use a "bit" (they melt in hot water and make it smell nice - but totally unneeded!)

I used w/ DS #1 and using it w/ DS#2.. helps for sure w/ diaper rash..

I even use it to remove my make-up.. works wonders there too (the small travel size I use for more then a yr.. you only need a tab on ur finger to wipe make-up off)!

i use vasaline with my little one. she gets diaper rash a lot because her skin is very delicate. i change her right away but i guess her skin is extra sensitive. she also had an issue with dry skin where the milk pimples came back again. i dont use it when she has the rash though, then i use diaper rash cream. i was told that putting vasaline on diaper rash would make it worse so i havn't done that. she's also in disposables. i find she gets diaper rash less often when she's in Huggies diapers rather than Pampers. The rash never lasts long. usually two days or so. she usually gets it once or twice a month. We will be using a new kind of wipes soon to see if it would help. We are going to try the Huggies Natural care plus once we use up all the wipes we have right now and see if it makes a difference.

Good for diaper rash and esp for baby's first few sticky poops.. I personally used Penaten after the sticky bowel movements.

Just to clarify, the above comments should say Vaseline helps prevent diaper rash. Vaseline should never be used on a diaper rash. It is correct that Vaseline works as a barrier, keeping moisture (and poop) away from healthy skin. In the same way, it would create a barrier on the rash, locking-in moisture and blocking exposure to air (which is needed to heal diaper rash). Penaten is great for treating rashes.

Another Vaseline fan here, used it on both of my boys. It's def. no good on diaper rash, I used something else for that until it cleared up,then back to Vaseline (can't remember the name of what I used).
