Thread: Skippy's Culinary Camping Story

We came back from camping on Sunday.
The guy camping next to our site happened to be a chef amongst many other things.
One morning he served my wife and I omlettes, toast and homemade homefries, which were neatly arranged on a plate.
Another day he made a homemade pot of soup from scratch with fresh veggies and shared it around the nearby campsites.
He helped a friend prepare beer can chicken over a campfire.
And lastly made a roastbeef dinner over a campfire!
This guy was amazing!
For us cooking hotdogs over a campfire is as good as it gets.
He was quite a friendly and generous soul.
I'm hoping we link up again! This thread is currently associated with: N/A

What a beautiful memory of a camping trip with the family, being served by a Chef. Your family will be able to talk about that over next year's campfire, awesome!

Hope you got his email addy...
Or at least let him know that you are Skippy on SC...
Anyway, I went camping with a person from Newfoundland once and learned how to bury meat (of course wrapped in foil) in a hole under the fire so the wild life won't get it...You just slow cook it all day and it is fabulous!!!
This person is also the one who taught me how to BBQ corn on the cob, and I will never boil/steam it again
I love camping as you meet the most interesting and cool people
Glad that you had a good time Skipperoo

I soak the corn in water for about a half and hour, and then I pull the husk back and try to remove as much of the silk as possible, then I load it with butter since I am not counting calories, pull the husk back up and then put it on the top burner of the BBQ turning every few minutes or so and cook it for 15 ish minutes...
You can tell if it's done by pulling back the husk and checking and poking a kernel...
I am telling you Skippy, this is fabulous way of cooking corn on the cob
