I am going to have to replace my 10 year old dishwasher soon. I have been out looking at what is available and have noticed that the controls on some of them are on the top of the door. Could someone let me know about the pros and cons of having the controls in that location? Thanks in advance.

No issues at all with controls there on my Miele incognito dishwasher. Keeps the external look clean.

Was the dishwasher installed flush to the cabinets or pulled out a touch?

In case you wanted to know... The BEST dishwasher I think out there is the BOSCH.... But pretty pricey...

We've been so lucky with ours, Tweets. It's the original that came with the house when we bought 15 years ago and the little workhorse is still going strong. It's just the cheapest Whirlpool that the builder could find but I've never once had an issue with it.

Also wanted to add that in those 15 years, the inlaws have had about three different brands under their cabinets, all with various problems. Leaking, electrical, you name it. They always tend to purchase top of the line products. In my experiences, expensive is usually better but not always.

We bought a Kenmore Elite dishwasher when we built our house 10 years ago. Eighteen months in, we had to replace the motor as a seal was leaking which took out the bearings. It was a common problem at the time altough Sears would not admit it. I also looked at a Bosch at the time but it had a huge filter that needed to be cleaned after every cycle at that was not my idea of making the job any easier. I of course regret that choice now. Now the front panel is breaking (it has those soft buttons on the front) and the electrical panel is doing some strange stuff. My DH says about $450 to repair so I am looking at new ones and there seems to be plenty to choose from and the features have changed quite a bit too. I just want to get something that washes the dishes and does'nt give me any grief.

Honestly I think the more basic dishwashers tend to last longer. Had good luck with basic Whirlpool and Kenmore washers

That said, I had a $600 Samsung with the hidden controls and had no issues.
