I just called my Sears in southwestern Ontario and the employee said that the Sears gift cards are not expiring on the 18th and can be used during the liquidation period. Conflicting statements, any others want to chime in with what they have heard when they asked. I want to be sure I can use my gift cards without having them going to waste.

I'd rather play it safe and use the gift cards ahead of the liquidation, since you never know what restrictions the creditors will place on gift card redemption.same goes for anyone who has Sears points....redeem them while you can.

Sears warranties expire on Oct. 18th as reported by global news.

CBC has reported that gift cards and point redemptions will be honoured during their liquidation. Extended warranties will be void. If you have purchased an extended warranty within the last 30 days you can request a refund.

I agree to use points before oct 18th as retailers don't accept them once liquidation starts. I was told to use mine asap last week before the 19th by a head office employee.

The liquidators might have crappy discounts to start with and only offer better discounts when there isn't much left.

I would try and make best use of gift cards now, while you can still get something you like.

I was at Lloydminster Sears liquidation near the beginning of their liquidation. I agree that it wasn't even worth walking in the door. Liquidation is trying to squeeze the most $ for their own profit. Noticed that most of the towels had already been cleared out so I don't know if that was a side deal to someone else? Lots of kids clothes left tho. Loved, loved Sears liquidation centre in Regina. So sad it is gone.

Too bad that I did not think to check the sewing notions department for parts. The old Kenmore sewing machine is scrap metal in my eyes as it has repair issues though it was good for zipper attachment and buttonholes. But all the thread jams I've had with that model have not made it worth keeping. Family member wants the machine still while another one said it is worth $ as metal. Pity that the machine was not contributed to a local scrap metal drive. Two years in vain I have tried to get it out the door.

When I found out in September 2016 that Sears gift cards were only good in stores and no longer for online or catalogue orders, I felt the end of the store was near. I also stopped chasing the gift card as a contest prize.

I was in my store today. They said that they will honour the GCs once liquidation starts, but like Target, I'd use them sooner rather than later. I know Target allowed GCs and coupons at first, then they all of a sudden switched to not allowing either.
