Food Items As Gifts - Thoughts?

If you give food items as gifts, either homemade (preserves, baked goods, soups) or purchased (e.g. wine, chocolates) and you get no feedback from the recipient (such as "That was delicious - thank you!" or "We appreciate the thought, but we can't eat gluten/sugar/nuts") do you continue to gift them food items?

To me, if I hear nothing about the gift, my mind tends to go to the saying, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" and I wonder if that is what is going on. I'd rather not have to ask each and every person, "did you like xyz?" It seems a little tedious.

I think these kinds of gifts are wonderful sure there may be one or two things they didn't necessary like or may even be allergic but they can and likely will regift to someone who can use it.
Homemade food items or homemade gifts in general show how thoughtful and involved you were with the gift.
Maybe they didn't say anything cause they thought their gift was inferior. I know with the teachers they almost all send a thank you card same day mind you they don't send gifts.
If it was a friend that you see the next day or the next week maybe they should or could say thank you or omg that jam was the bomb. Or maybe they are selfish jerks lol.
If it is someone you see only once every few months I wouldn't expect a oh that piece of gift was perfect as it was likely forgotten by the next time you see them.

Not sure if any of that answers your question but I definitely think it depends on who the recipient is to you.

No. I definitely would not continue to give them homemade food gifts. If they loved it, they would say so...ask for the recipe, etc. If they say nothing I would take that to mean they don't appreciate such thoughtful gifts or it's not to their taste. I don't give gifts and expect a thank you, but they're always nice to receive. Reserve your talents for those who appreciate them.
