So I wanted to see if couponing and price matching was really worth it, so I used a template of an Excel Workbook made specifically for tracking spending and savings.

I am proud to say that I saved over $300 in my first month of couponing/PM AND stayed within my budget for groceries + holiday spending. Usually we aim to spend approximately $400 a month but with the Holidays, I upped the amount to $1000 to include the extra spending. !!!!!!

Anyway, check it out! We will definitely continue couponing as I never imagined our family would be saving so much money. Now, just to work on limiting take out to $50/monthly and lower as the new year goes on..

Wow, you're spreadsheet is amazing. Did you create it on your own? I'm going to attempt all tracking starting January 1st. I think the ticker is a great idea too.

Great job saving and keep couponing!
I'd like a copy of that spreadsheet too! but I'd change the wording so I don't start confusing myself, because 'savings' is what I set aside strictly speaking, so if I'm not banking that difference saved through couponing and sales, then it doesn't count as savings.

One way of saving is to not buy at all. I only go to the stores when I need to go. I watch all the flyers and coupons, make a plan and do it all in one day. It helps curb the impulse buys.

indeed, not all deals are ones we really need so i skip some too and stick to my list!

OP will hopefully answer the spreadsheet question as well but from the looks of it, it's your basic Microsoft Excel worksheet with formulas and formatting to suit OPs needs.

OP, for those less tech savvy...might you consider uploading a blank template of your spreadsheet? I believe you can attach xls on SC but others may know better how to get it shared.

    Thanks!!!

I found the template I am using here: http://thecouponproject.com/downloads/savings-tracker

I tweaked the formatting and some of the formulas for my own needs. I hope you all find it as useful as I am finding it!!
