@Ciel21: I am so agree with expensive fees on prepaid card..purchase one time a 50$ vanilla credit card at a conveniance store and the fees was 5$ wow..awfull about the Wal Mart you stated that the card where notched and already used..you cannot trus anything anymore... at least mine worked!!!
I now use when I have a need the credit card of dad for online purchases and I refund him in $$$ much simpler and no to pay expenvise maintenance fees

Check with BMO to be sure if the fee comes off the balance. AND if there's also an activation fee in addition to that.


Most of the "Vanilla" branded Visa or Mastercard pre-loaded cards have a one-time activation fee... not an annual fee. And you pay it at the register when you purchase and activate it. It doesnt come off the balance.


Depending on the amount you wish to pre-load, it ranges from $3.95 (for a $25 card) up to $7.50 (for a $250 card) (By comparison, the $6.50 fee would be on a $150 card)
There are also "range value" cards are the highest at $7.95 no matter what value you add (starting at $25... however you can pre-load these up to $500.)

Again, these are one-time activation fees, not annual fees.

I just got an email regarding the changes from Air Miles to Scene with purchases at Sobeys etc. I have 2 cards, one with 8 miles and another with 25 miles. Any suggestions on how to use them up if its even worth it? Should I be buying some of the GC in the above post to accumulate more?

You need a minimum of 95 Air MIles to cash out $10 at till or get a $10 gc. I'd be looking at any bonus AM offers you get plus the flyer to get up to 95 on your next shop. Or just use the 8 AM card to get to 95 and cash out---only if you regularly shop at Sobeys. Who else is still offering AM at other stores? Not Rexall or Shell or Lowes or LCBO.

Are you in Ontario or in Atlantic Canada? East Coast is already using Scene+ so maybe the program is moving westwards already.
