REGINA -- The driver of a transport truck that collided with a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team is facing criminal charges.
RCMP say Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, who is 29, was arrested this morning at his Calgary home and is in police custody.
He faces 16 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and 13 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily injury.

He is to appear in provincial court in Saskatchewan next week.
RCMP say they will not release any details of the investigation or what they believe happened.
The Broncos were on their way to a playoff game when the truck and the bus crashed at a rural Saskatchewan intersection on April 6.
Sixteen people, including 10 players, died as a result of the crash, and 13 players were injured.
The truck driver was not hurt.Last edited by walkonby; Fri, Jul 6th, 2018 at 03:47 PM.

I listened to the live news conference, RCMP sure were not forthcoming with much info. I know they can't because stuff has to wait until court, but still... Three months has been a long time to wait.
Criminal code: dangerous driving causing death, 14 years; dangerous driving causing bodily harm, 10 years.
Hm, consecutive sentencing would be nice...Last edited by Natalka; Fri, Jul 6th, 2018 at 04:12 PM.

Sentencing was today.
He will serve eight years. That's it.
It should be eight years each, served concurrently not consecutively.
Hope this is appealed!

Here in Saskatoon, at the hospital, an announcement came for us to have a minute of silence at 4:50 p.m. CST, the anniversary of the bus crash one year ago.
Some of those involved in the crash did some of their rehabilitation on the unit I am in now, others on a more specialized ward one floor up.
...
There was a memorial service at the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humboldt, one year after the fatal Broncos bus crash in Saskatchewan. The event pays tribute to the 16 people who died, and honours those who survived.
I am watching parts of it now, broadcasted live.
at centre ice, there are 29 candles, representing the 29 people aboard the bus at the time of the crash.
The candle ceremony is beautiful, people are standing in a circle around what you see in the pic, lighting each other's candles, then the larger candles on each table.
