okay everyone here is how my genius mind works ....hmmm did I spell genius correctly? LOL!!

I got the idea in my head to post an ad on Craig's list (specifically in my town..which is not huge) asking everyone who reads my ad to please keep their coupon inserts for me..and I would pay them a buck to hang on to them and I would come get them..I asked them to ask their neighbors as well!!
Ive already had 4 responses of people who live near me saying that they will keep all the inserts for me!! One of whom lives in an apt complex and says she sees tons of them all the time!!

sooooooo save yourself the recycle bin walk (Im just too nervous to do that) and post an ad in your area asking your community to help you out!!!

In the Region of Peel, you can be fined $300 for scavenging. They have received calls reporting people.

sounds like one of those to meet quota laws

there is an area close to where i live that would classify as a poorer area, and i see TONS of poor/homeless people with their shopping carts loading up beer bottles from peoples recycle bins.
since there is also a beer store nearby
and ive never seen any of them get fined for it yet sooooo

Sounds like a great idea to me.

There's a lot of areas of Canada where there is a blue bag program rather than recycle bins, so there is no option of doing a recycle walk for coupons.

There was a thread a while back where some people were appalled at people selling coupons and even more appalled that others would pay for them. The simple fact is, maybe time is worth something to some people.

As well, if you live out in the country and your nearest neighbor is a mile down the road, I'm assuming the recycle walk might be a little more difficult than in downtown suburbia. Plus, there's always gonna be coupons that aren't accessible in some areas.

I actually bought some of the $2.00 Cottonelle coupons on eBay before Christmas for the simple reason I didn't see them anywhere in my local area. And as far as trading goes, my last couple of attempts to initiate a trade weren't worth the time or hassle. Avoiding hassle and saving time was well worth it to me when I bought the coupons.

Everybody has their own opinion on the subject. Myself, I appreciate someone taking the time to open a thread with a tip that worked for them in their area.

I agree with TinMack. In my area, we are not allowed to "scavenge". Although I do see people do it, and honestly, I've met people on the street and pointed to my house and told them to check out my recycle bin for bottles and what not. That said, I don't do it. I tried it once, it was a bit embarrassing, and I didn't get anything worthwhile. But, it works for some.

When I need multiples of a great coupon, that I will use a lot. I go to ebay. Somethings I just need a lot of and unfortunately for me, there are a lot of entire tear pad takers in my local stores. So those are my options.

I've placed an ad on kijiji asking for inserts and I've got 0 replies. I bet, if I offered $, I would get a response. Sounds like a great idea to me if that is your best option to getting a bunch of inserts. Fortunately for me, my work gets lots of papers, and I get them from work, and my customers that know me, know I coupon and bring them to me, so in that area I'm lucky.

But everyone has to do things differently, in order to get what they need. And each person/area is different. So I don't think we should judge.

I agree with both of you. Every city/municipality has different recycle programs and not everyone is able to do walks. Whatever works for the individual. I'm lucky that my family and friends collect their inserts for me but otherwise I don't know if I would be able to find extras as we have a blue bag program here

I think when on smartcanucks we see potentially good coupons in the inserts it is worth to pay $1 and get multiple of those. Especially for those FPC (mail in rebates) etc. Nice idea!

i think its a good idea, but i work at a hotel. so depending on how busy it is we get a bunch of papers, and ill go in, before anyone even gets a paper, and just take all the inserts out. the papers are there so that people can read it. not get coupons! PLUS usually people just recycle them. bonus pour moi!

Lot of identity theives dig through recycle bins for confidential info .. so if someone sees you going through their bin , they might assume the same even though you are just looking for inserts .

You will be surprised how much personal info people throw in garbage without shredding it or giving it a second thought .
