I will let you in on a secret most people don't realize; my SO & I have a number of scanners in the house that allow us to listen to mainly police, fire, and ambulance, but quite often we can get things like some air traffic control frequencies, security over at Scotiabank place when they use walkies to communicate, and lots of baby monitors.
If you use them, or you are making a purchase for someone, please let them know that they should always switch them off when the baby is not in the location it's meant for (such as the crib), or to use it sparingly. MANY people have scanners these days - I have a handheld downstairs beside me as we speak, we have a larger one in the bedroom, and another in SO's Ham Shack (he's licensed); I won't begin to tell you the things that can be picked up.
In fact, when the kids play outside in the summer & they use those little hand held walkies you can buy at the store, we can hear everything when they talk in them if we tune in - takes mere seconds because we tell it to scan & find signals.
It's the digital age - privacy is not the same anymore unless you take the time to better protect yourself!

We hear other people's monitors via our own baby monitor. We shut it off as soon as DS wakes up.
