Yesterday i received a phone call from Carole to tell me her dad has passed away on Sunday. He died at the Veterans Hospital in Ste Anne de Bellevue in Quebec. He was 99 years old. Archie lived alone until last year, aged 98, when he fell down the stairs outside and his his head. He was hospitalized for 3 weeks and Carole was told he could not live alone any longer. Imagine, 98 years old and living alone. He had all his faculties about him. And he played Cribbage until the week he fell down the stairs. Archie was full of vim and vigour and loved to be around people.
Hubby and i were priviledged enough to drive him back and forth to his Cribbage and do other little things for him. He was a gentleman, had a great sense of humour, and enjoyed dinners with his special friend.
This is my little tribute to a wonderful man who will be missed by all his friends and acquaintances. Here's to you Archie! This thread is currently associated with: N/A

what a privilege it must have been to know and interact with such a guy! His years on this earth surpassed so many and how wonderful for him and his loved ones that before he had that unfortunate fall, he had all his faculties about him.
R.I.P. Mr Archie.

The sad news just keeps on coming. Since Archie passed away, we have received news of several others who have passed. Archies daughters brother-in-law (two funerals in 1 week); my daughter's ex's grandmother (died from Covid in the seniors home that has been in the news lately); and a friend of mine that has been battling non hodgekins lymphoma for the past 10 years; and my best friends brother-in-law died from cancer.
It seems that it never ends. Is it because we are getting older and this is just a normal progression of life or is it something more. We try to stay positive but at times like this it is hard. I say a prayer for all these people and also for the ones left behind that they will find peace.

@SnowFlakey it is partly that as we age, naturally we lose loved ones, but this covid situation has doubled/tripled the odds.
My deepest sympathies for those you were acquainted with who have passed.

Another bit of sad news today. An acquaintance told me today that he has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Yes its a male. He found a lump in his breast and had a mamogram done at the hospital. Next week he is meeting with an oncologist to see about treatment but he told me today that he wants a mastectamy. What a time to be diagnosed with cancer. It is so scarey for him; for anyone diagnosed with cancer at this time!
